Default Anyone Having Trouble Seating the Bead on Trofeo Rs?

I have a new set of Trofeo Rs and day three of the shop trying to seat the bead. Tires went on rims no prob, but they cannot get the bead to seat. Tomorrow they are going to try heating the tires. This is a reputable shop, on the TireRack list of installers, and the rims are OZ Superforgiattas. They have had three sets of MPSCs on them with no problem--same shop. Curious.

Trofeos require a CRAZY amount of pressure to seat. Almost 100psi at the tire shop I use. Yeah it's crazy but they take that much.

Another reason to leave it to professionals. I don't want to be anywhere a failure if one ever develops during the mount.

My local shop has to heat them in the sun for a while and use 90 pounds pressure to set. It usually takes them all day, first time took 2 days. Heat should work and stand back!!

They are worth it, a cool season tire in my opinion- when temps are around 55 to 65 is where they shine, performance drops off dramatically above 90 degrees.

Keep the pressures hot at 28 to 30 pounds and have fun!

It's largely an issue of experience. Shops familiar with these things mount them just like regular R tire. Trick is the real stiff sidewall (particularly in the area close to the bead) which is a shocker for 1st timers.

You're not the only one it seems. Others have reported similar issues. I took mine to a local shop familiar with race/track tires and they had zero issues. Love them BTW.

120 psi to seat the bead would not be unexpected. Typical for Trofeo

A trick is to wrap a vehicle tie down around center of a warm tire and crank it down to force out sidewalls and aid bead setting.

Highest was 150 psi. They had no cage, so put it under a lowered lift and covered it with a tarp just in case!

I installed the trofeos a cold morning in Bavaria. The one rear tyre went on with 80 psi and the other didnt go.The guys at Porsche dealership were surprised .Tryed to heat the tyre but nothing. Then i told them to insist on pressure as i read in this thread and after 105 psi it mounted.Thank you guys that was very interesting to know before i go for mounting the tyres.
