Apple Macbook Air and Solo DL logging?
#16
Since using a laptop at the racetrack can have it exposed to all kinds of dirt I just bought a 300 euro 10" netbook to do the same. Costs less than a license of Parallels + a Windows license

Been doing this with Motec, Stack, Traqmate, and AIM since 2007 running Macbook Pros. For the VM I have used Parallels, VMWare, and Bootcamp. My current favorite is bootcamp simply for the cost and the ease of having the right drivers loaded every time (unlike some of the VM stuff). Works like a champ.

By the way, for Solo DL owners with 997.2 GT3, 997.2 GT3 RS and RS 4.0.
Peter Krause (Lolaman here in RL), wrote me that the latest firmware for the SOLO DL and the latest RaceStudio2 software fix a few bugs with the 997.2 GT3 data logging. Peter's support with my AiM SmartyCam and AiM Solo DL has been extraordinary. This is the one system that made me quit using Traqmate after 8 years.

- old white guys leaving is the final nail in the coffin
- pretty much explains HP going to zero, Dell going to zero, and about to be a very slow death spiral of MSFT (their phone is a zero, consumer's have already left and will continue in bigger numbers and now corporations aren't going to upgrade to Win 8)
- if you go to an Apple store and say you are going to use your Ipad or Mac anything for business, immediately they offer you 10 hours of free consulting to get you up and running

This is going to drive Deputy Dog crazy...he is still in the BlackBerry world and just bought a new PC last week which is outdated already and probably has a virus by now.

Wow, what a timely thread. I need a new notebook but have been on the fence cause I want to do this only ONCE and chose the right platform.
Been using my work Windows notebook for Traqmate cause my Mac Power PC at home is too old to do Windows, but it's slow as molasses for the GoPro. Problem is, my Mac is still rock solid and NEVER lets me down, even after many years.
So, if I get a MS Office license from work, can I install office directly on a MB Pro or Air using Bootcamp or Parallels? I.e. is it the same version of Office as the one used on PCs?
Is there ANY reason not to get a Mac?????

Get the Mac best hardware and OS IMO for work or home. You'll need windows if using bootcamp or parallels then office for the other stuff - word, excel, etc... If you need office and using a Mac why not get MS office for the Mac.

Thanks Chris, I'll look into that, but, as a user at work, I can get an Office license for $10 (maybe I could get a copy of Office for Mac instead and stay in the Mac environment except for the Traqmate stuff).

yep! i had it in my head that solo only would work with pc, and was thinking about buying something a laptop or even a desktop to have bigger monitor - looking at track data on itty bitty work laptop is no fun. yes, i probably would have figured it out before buying anything...but now i will look into this software for my mac.

So to get into a DE Cup events now you need to have an 8gig Mac Air running Win 7 - I'm going with the 11" screen to keep it smaller.
Can this email go out to everyone so we don't have people showing up with HP or Dells it just wouldn't look good

I've been using Mac's since System 7, and that's a long time.....
I picked up a Macbook Pro recently, had the DVD player removed, dealer installed a 512 GB SSD instead. Fantastic!
Even Microsoft office boot up is instantaneous.
That may be another option for those looking for more hd space, especially if installing windows and bootcamp. 8 GB of ram recommended.
Also if possible opt for the i7 processor.
