Made me a smoother and faster driver for sure. Like having a pro coach in the car all the time. Riding with Cass Whitehead two years ago into T14 at TH in the demo GTS and experiencing him rotating the car under trailbrake with SC/TC turned on (and turning 2:03's) was a pivotal moment in my driving education.
Yes, Porsche Sport Driving school wants you to drive slow (or let me say well within the limits of what PSM is capable of in their cars), to preserve their cars and keep people from trying to be hero's. I've talked with a few notable Porsche sport instructors and mostly they have horror stories of no driving yuppies with money trying to go all Ayrton Senna on them, or just being horrible drivers to begin with. I would make it a standard to put TC on too. At the driving school at Barber, there is little to no room for bonehead moves. Unless you are a qualified advanced driver, no driver is going to put you in the car and tell you to turn off the TC. They are in the car too.

You will get different opinions from different coaches based not on their skill level, but yours. And I'd bet money any of them would suggest a wet handling course for car control skills. Using TC is just an easy way to get people to keep people from over driving. A pro driver can show you how to go fast with TC on, it does help proving it can be done with smooth inputs, as intermediate drivers tend to overdrive the car. But there is a definite limit as to how far that will take you. And it's certainly not as fast. I've seen Randy Pobst, Andrew Davis and the like immediately get in and turn everything off. Some guys will like to use TC as a coaching tool, some will not. I do not like TC on in the car except for over aggressive drivers. TC on with a timid driver does more harm than good IMO.

Oops, I think I just contributed to making this thread put two wheels off. Time to take a stop and go penalty and get back to the original topic. : )

I agree with Savy for about 50% of the tracks and 90% of the DE drivers
At some tracks it even makes you faster, but not Sebring.

You can drive Sebring around TC and SC kicking on, but there just are too many bumpy corners where you need a lot of car rotation and even get Gokart style rear axle hopping and SC kicks on and takes a thenth away.

This is for the 10% most advanced drivers only. If you have not done 100 track days, leave it on everywhere, over 100 track days and hundreds of laps on a certain track in the same car, at half the tracks you are faster with it off. Sebring is faster off.

I think Peter is wise using it now, but once he gets to grips with the car, he will turn it off. You just don't go faster with a system that cuts power and dabs brakes all of which intended to slow you down.
I truned it off after the second session and turned it back on the last sesson after cleaning up my driving it was basically driving very need and clean that kept it off, except where the car hops and jumps and or heavy trail brake.

On a side note, I challenge someone in Gold or Platunum Cup who's best lap was set with it off, to go faster with it on (with no mod changes). Sebring included, but even at Road Atlanta, Barber or VIR. You don't go fast at either place without some trail braking, and the wheelspin at turn 4 at Barber and turn 11 at RA (Assuming you are flat) will cost you .2 or more every time it kicks in. Not to mention Road Atlanta's brake zones that curve away from the direction of turn in, so the fast way is to enter the turn with steering input. SC/TC hates that and at least in the 996, the PSM causes more pitching and bucking than without.

Barber T4 is such a fun hooligan corner....I'll be there in early December, if I can bring myself to drive with TC on, I'll see what I can do assuming I get some clean flyers.

Being old and slow doesn't make me embarrassed to be like the 1,000th guy to say congrats on your new ride. Looks way cool. Does this mean Gavin will be following from now on?
Noticed you signed up for Citrus region Roebling this weekend and I am curious what you are driving.

IIRC, the 4.0 has soft helper springs in the rear. I wonder if the rear is loading more heavily than you are used to as a result, with the effect of some more lift to the nose in these throttle zones?

I think it has softer rear springs and stiffer helper springs

U are probably right
