There was no .1 GT2RS and there was no .2 GT2, so they went from '09 GT2 to and '11 GT2RS
Different cars, but I would say the difference between the 2 is similar as between a .1 GT3 ans .2 GT3RS, except the GT2 was the first car with the folding sport seats...

Peter, I have to say that the difference is a lot smaller.
GT2 and GT2RS share the same engine, with different tune, different intercoolers, looks, aero, and suspension. Engine wise they are the same.
A lot easier to make a GT2 perform like a GT2RS than, a 3.6 GT3 to perform like a 3.8GT3.

To sum up the differences that actually matter- pistons, turbos, ECU, PCM, red highlighted interior. Those things will cost a lot to change. Then you have body- front fenders, hood, front/rear bumper covers and lip/lower valence, rear tail lights, intercooler intakes, under panel for rear window, and wing insert. Then the simple bolt ons- intercoolers, shocks/springs, sway bars, and maybe one or two that I don't know or remember.

Reason really for the question is because the GT3.2s seem better finished inside and I prefer the black interface of the sat nav. Been browsing the classifieds and came across a 09 GT2 with this interior...
I am in the UK of this makes any difference.

As a collector's car, I would pick up the GT2 RS.
As a track car, I would pick up a 997 GT2, add some of the GT2 RS body stuff, then tune engine and suspension, re-gear, no way a GT2 RS would touch that.
