Rich Porsche drivers can afford it.

It is crazy what people are really willing to pay for some exhaust tubing. if you really think about it theres nothing special about it but they charge an arm and a leg. talk about porsche tax

A lot cheaper than buying a full Akrapovic system.

1600 must be the sales price. I have the RSS and their website shows 1999

But yes, the pricing does seem a little high. Some of the pricing must be to recoup R&D costs from the front side.

I had someone duplicate the cup exhaust pipes for $175 a few years back.

Print up some photos of the design of the exhaust parts that you like and are proven to make hp. If possible get relevent dimensions.

Drop your P Car off at your local muffler shop that commonly builds full race custom exhaust systems for about $800 for a wide variety of cars.

Proceed to save $2K-10K and have the exact same result.

This would be what I was referring to as R&D cost. For example, the Pharma companies get patents on their meds that come to market so they can recoup the costs of R&D for not only the meds that make it to market, but the countless ones that don't. Could the exhaust be cheaper? Of course it could. But the companies that actually invest to create the proper (e.g., diameter, length, bends, dyno testing, etc.) system should be able to collect on that without some crying that it's only a couple hundred in materials and labor.
