Default Studs scratched on rotor for CenterLocks

Took my rear wheels off for the first time today and observed that the studs on the rotors were a bit scratched up. As a Centerlock worrywart, I thought I'd ask here if this is indicative of anything. If it matters, the car has only used the OEM wheels and OEM rotors in the rear.

Thanks for any advice...

Perfectly normal. Nothing to worry about. Simply scratches from wheel on/off.

Read the dealer bulletin poster here.

And sheesh, get all that grease off the hub! Good gosh...

Those nubbins are more scratched than mine and i have done many wheel changes btwn 3 sets of wheels. Still, doesn't look too bad. Read the "checking cl wheels" sticky and compare with the photos.

Looks like a ton of goo on the hub!

Is the grease on the hub harmful?

you want to put a little grease there, but that is way too much, and you probably have it deeper on the hub than is necessary. you can also apply a thin film to the wheel surfaces that contact the hub and CL conical surface.

+1 to the above, and you need a tiny bit of grease on the threads. Wipe off a bit on the hub surface and smear just a fraction of the excess on the threaded area and you're good to go.

FWIW my rear red nubs look just like yours

Since I just had the wheels off today, is it necessary to correct the extra grease or can I just deal with it next time the wheels are off? Trying to identify an potential downside to the extra grease being on the hub...

Grease won't hurt anything on the hub but there is no reason to grease the outer surface of the hub and Porsche doesn't call for grease there anyway.

As indicated above, the excess grease on the outside isn't needed but not detrimental either... Make sure to regrease the threads in the hub before re-installing wheels... I pull out the secondary locks from in there to make it easier to apply a smear of grease...
