Default Quick trailer check please

I am getting ready to tow for the first time with my new truck. Truck sits much higher than my van did. I tried a hitch mount with nearly 6" drop, then went to 8" (seen in photo - not attached but lowered to height of ball).

As you can see (use curb for level reference) the trailer is still too high in the front. What do I need to do? Get an adjustable mount with more drop? Is current set up acceptable for 90 miles up to LA?

You will be fine just make sure you have enough weight on the tongue. couldn't resist. you will put a little more load on your rear trailer tire though. I have over 50k miles towing with the front of the trailer a scosch higher in the front.

I have that same trailer and love it.

By the time you actually hook the trailer up and load it with the car, I bet it will level out. With the current hitch. All little angle will be fine, in fact it will ease the angle for loading and unloading your car.

The all aluminum adjustable hitches are really nice, but if you go long distance there is a little clucking going down the road.

Be sure to check the load rating on the drop hitch. You don't want to get something too light.

Good luck.

I am no engineer but I am not liking that angle on the drop. I have a similar drop, but it goes out further and straight down.
Check load rating to be sure.

the trailer will level out with weight on it.

your drop hitch extends out pretty far. What is the weight rating on it?

my 6" drop hitch is stright down and does not extend out.

It is rated to 5000#. i went to 3 local shops and that was all I could find that would work in terms of drop height. I still have today to look before towing tmrw. Is your straight (not angled) drop hitch adjustable? AdjustAble height drop hitches are all I can find and i would rather not have that.

Question, a little off topic.....
When you load up the trailer to max weight, do you increase the tire pressure to max or stay at nominal..assuming I think nominal for a featherlite like above is around 36pSI?

BTW that trailer should level out under load.

I increase pressure to max or near max when the trailer is loaded.

Always run ST trailer tires at max pressure and I run 5 psi over max. Reduces the heat build up. IIRC ST tires are only rated to 65 mph max speed.

Read this pdf from Goodyear on ST tires

For tire pressure, it is near its max, at least with trailex, it is, 50 lbs is recommended. With my tow vehicle, the book recommends also to increase all tires with pressure. More for back tires then front.

Try to get approx 11% to 15% of the loaded trailer weight on the ball. If the tongue weight is too light you trailer will wag.

Here it is loaded. Still high in the front - I will fine tune it later.
