Your answer in the US is very different from RoW.

RoW RS'es get polycarbonate rear window, half cage, lightweight buckets, fire extinguisher. None of that is available in the US so there's actually minimal difference between a GT3 and an RS, other than the 44mm widebody and color scheme (not to be discounted--itself a big selling point in my book).

Between the 997.2 GT3 and 997.1 RS, you trade up to a better engine (meaningful--esp. low range torque), newer suspension (997.1 front struts prone to give in and rattle after certain mileage) but everything else (incl. gear ratios) is pretty much the same.

So for you, if the economics make sense, the 3.8 is a better package overall and the one to get. The 3.8 also happens to be a better street car, hands down.

For the rest of the world, the RS with the clubsport-specific changes make it a very unique value proposition. Hence that's my choice for a track car. I like my track cars raw, wet and wild.

p.s. if you do end up getting an RS, the ORANGE or GREEN is a big selling point. Unless you don't care about resale whatsoever, years down the road when "vintage" buyers start looking at the 997.1RS they'll want those two colors...

Does a 3.8 gt3 and 3.6 RS have different gear ratios?
I always thought they were the same... I know the final drive is the same at 3.44

They are the same.

The 3.8 RS on the other hand had a shorter final drive.

Yes - the 3.89 and a different 6th I thought

If the gearing is the same then the powertrain advantage is with the gt3 save for the crappy dual mass flywheel which is easily rectified

Thanks for the feedback. I'm leaning toward the .2 for no other reason than there are a few locally to choose from. Track use will be limited to a few DEs a year, but I will be getting sport buckets anyway since I already have them in my current car and really like the feel.

Ideally I'd get an orange or green RS, but the exotic colors won't fly with the wife unfortunately.

If money isn't a factor, then the .2 for sure. It's faster without a doubt and has psm. With that being said, you're talking a couple-3 seconds on a big track. The .1 is still a hell of a car and whole lot of fun to drive. You're in a win win situation.

3.8 is miles better

.1RS is nice because its an RS, kind of unique, lovely wing, purposeful etc
.2 looks worse IMO, but on road and track is much better.

.1RS will likely hold value better; IMO all else favors .2.

Depends on useage and budget.

.1 RS is 80-90k
.2 GT3 is 95k+

.1 RS with seats is just as handy as a .2 GT3 on a track and both are decent on the street.

RS has wide body appeal and stripped of graphics can be decent stealth in white, black and silver.

Go for the latest greatest you can afford with the most warranty unless you love the wide body and 5 lugs for the long haul.

My bad, I couldn't remember if .2 GT3's had a mandatory sunroof.
