second gear problems

Dealer has tried a couple of things to no avail. Is likely going to be opening up the transmission. Thinks it is likely a synchro problem. Where do I get steel synchross to replace the stock bronze units? Thanks in advance

Just wanted to update. Transmission problem turned out to be bad second gear synchro. Dealer fixed and covered under CPO warranty (thank goodness). All is good now.

Glad to hear all is well with your ride and second gear. You've got good reasssuring advice from many on your problem.
Still got good weather ahead for a bit for more tracking don't you think?

Glad you got it repaired, it will happen again. OEM street stuff is a soft brass from 1-3. 4-6 is steel...when the warranty doesn't cover things, get Motor Sport Synchro's.

One more event at the end of september and that's a wrap for WI. Wish the season lasted longer. Maybe I should get a trailer?

Thanks for all of your advice. Was glad to have it covered under warranty. Once out of warranty will go motor sport synchs.

Weirdly enough for me, the randomly-pop-out-of-2nd problem went away for me after a fresh fill of OEM Mobil PTX and a hot & hard track weekend. It's been 1,500 miles on the clock and no problems since... touch wood.

I had to try some type of additive for a week to see if that cured the problem. It did not and thus the transmission was opened up and fixed. Glad yours is better.

Guys, im hopping on this thread in hopes to get some info on transmission fluid and what is acceptable to use in my 1999 992 c2 cab.
I was out for a ride today, (cold, 6deg celcius) and found that my transmission was flawless in regards to not popping out of 2nd gear.
The fluid in the tranny was cold and it shifted beautifully, it engaged in 2nd gear and i was able to punch the throttle and drive smoothly till i had to shift to 3rd,the way it was was meant to. In the hotter temps, however, the opposite is true, it seems to barely ever engage into 2nd and when it does, im so in shock that the moment is gone and i find myself "babying" 2nd gear most of the time.
i have read that most everyone is using 75w90, but would a heavier fluid be worth a try or will it cause other issues??
id like to prevent having to remove the transmission if i dont have to.

I also own a 2007 RS, mine has over 16,000 miles and no issues at all (knock on wood) in regards to the transmission (or anything else of significance). Never on the track. I have read on one of the Porsche forums that if you shift at too low rpms (I usually shift between 3500 and 4500 rpms), the synchros have to work much harder than spinning the engine higher up. Is there anything to this, or am I better off continuing to shift nice and gently first to second? Thanks once again for your learned advise.
