second gear problems
07 GT3 RS. 8700 miles. No mods (except sharkwerks bypass). minimal tracking. Have had the car since april but over the last few weeks about 15% of the time can not get it into second gear. Will grind. Rev matching, redepressing clutch, nothing helps. Does it seemingly only when warmed up. Rest of the time works fine. Seems not to be affecting other gears. Have done search but still need some help. Syncros, clutch going bad. THanks for your input

Clutch or PP problems affect all gears.
If you're second-gear specific you're likely looking at a gearbox rebuild. Ain't as bad as it sounds, been there before. While you're at it, you can look at the gear ratios (1st & 2nd being integral to the input shaft) or the R&P. Steel synchros too. It ain't all bad.

Likely not a full rebuild
Ping north van
He just finished going through this and symptoms were the same
Things to look at "while in there"
Is diff good?
Possible ring and pinion swap or change of some gear ratios or both?
Synchros to steel?
Cup cables?
Etc

As per PJ, I had my synchro's on 2 and 3 replaced with cup car parts...problem solved. You don't need to rebuild, it is the shops way of getting unnecessary work done to your transmission.
You can confirm this with Matt at GT

bmardini, Northvan, PJS996GT3, Thanks for the input. Still under CPO so will start with dealer. Hopefully will be as simple as new synchros. Still frustrating with a low mileage car. Trying to get it ready for tracking it some more. Thanks again. Rennlist is awesome for this type of stuff.

You're in luck with your CPO. I had same issue on my 996 turbo while under CPO. Dealer repaired transmission at no cost. I paid to upgrade the syncos to steel. Never had the problem again.
