Cancelled EasyCare today - Lesson learned

Well, I learned the hard way what others have said for a long time. Against my better judgement, I bought an EasyCare extended warranty policy last year when I bought my 997.1 GT3.
Up until now, I have filed zero claims, assuming if I ever had a big issue, they would cover me. Of course I bought the Total Care, assuming I might as well get the entire package, including wheel damage due to road hazards. Well, I hit a pothole and bent the rim. Classic case of road damage obviously covered by EasyCare. Tire was destroyed and thrown away....
EasyCare was cooperative until they saw the cost of a new rim....$3500 (it was the special factory option black wheel). Long story short, EasyCare said I needed to show them the tire, which was of course long gone. No tire would have survived the damage. The denial of claim was based on the fact that I needed to prove that the tire had at least 3/32" of tread (it says right there in the small print of the contract). No tire, no claim. I argued with EasyCare and the dealer did the same. They would not budge and had no interest in reaching resolution. I cancelled and should recover 83% of my premium back based on the short time the contract was in place (at least that is supposed to be the case....).
I'm sure others have had great experiences, and that's fine. However, it is clear that if you have a major claim, you had better have followed the contract word for word. I do drivers ed periodically and no doubt that would somehow invalidate some clause. In this case, I admit it was my mistake for not keeping the tire. Lesson learned and life goes on.
BTW, I am looking for a rear factory black oem rim for a GT3 (the special order one) if anyone knows of one laying around. There are 3 at Porsche in Atlanta, but at $3500 each, I am going to look around first. Fortunately, I have a set of track wheels to use in the meantime.

The wheel was my evidence, or so I thought. 3/32" or 2 inches of tread would have made no difference. However, as I said, my mistake.

I had Easycare on my C2S, they replaced an engine, a MAF, a door switch, and then gave me about 1/2 my money back when I sold the car for the GT3.
I never had an issue with them, sorry about your bad luck.

So they were willing to pay $3500 for the wheel but since you couldn't prove the tire had 3/32 tread you are upset about it ...
I would have said the same thing..no tire no reimbursement.... Cancelling the policy I think was a mistake, a big one

Stock finish wheel painted locally to match - leftover cash in pocket
Buy more tires
Factory painted wheels are not magic - just a paint code and a spray gun

The cost of that rim is nothing special, especially when sourcing parts from a Porsche Dealership. Should not have been surprised when they said $3500 when dealing with a supposed insurance claim.
When it came to the part the "Service Writer" just simply wrote in $3500 because he figured they would pay it.
The crap that some of these buttholes do at the dealerships really give the industry a real bad name.

This is a possibility. The rim is actually bulged up in the middle of the wheel where the middle of the tire was pushed into the middle of the rim by the pothole impact, destroying the tire but not breaking the rim (these wheels are 12" wide and incredibily strong). The inside/outside surface is fine. Good idea.
