I was surprised at this result too. I knew the 4.0 was fast but couldn't believe it when I saw it (I was non-RS behind both of them). Simply amazing looking, sounding specimen David. After purchasing my regular GT3, I didn't expect to lust so hard after another car. Better start saving again for when all you guys upgrade your 4.0's the 991 RS

The big difference of the two cars is from a dig. With the launch control and AWD the turbo S will destroy the 4.0 (or most cars for that matter). In most dig scenarios, the gap made at the start will keep the turbo S in front for most normal races (1/8, 1/4, 1/2, and mile) events.
In this race, from higher roll, the S advantages are minimized. Of course, the S owner just goes and does an exhaust and tune and that's that.

Had a similar story here in the UAE...took my 4.0 on a road trip with a friend of mine in his 997.1S from Dubai to Fujeirah...long and empty 2 lanes road with nice and wide curves in the desert. First time I wanted to push the car a bit before the first oil and filter change at 2600km.
We came across a beautiful 458 (orange with black top driven by a local) and as all cars slowed down (speed limiters as we crossed a village) my buddy ended up side by side with the 458 at the last limiter. They both looked at each others and what was to be expect took place...they decided to race
The 458 didn't realise I was behind him and anyway couldn't guess what car I had (bit of a sleeper as it is a seal grey PTS and his back vision must be poor with very tinted windows). Needless to say my friend got trashed but I felt I needed to get involved and followed the 458.
We played for quite a while chasing each others and to be honest I expected to be killed...I am not a very skilled driver and have to admit had no idea how the 4.0 behaved at all but I was not only holding up with him but putting pressure on him.
Now clearly one could argue he was eventually not pushing his car or a bad driver but you guys don't know locals in the GCC for whom (and I can surely understand) winning is everything...plus we were taking curves at 200km/h+ and I reached 275km/h on a straight.
So coming back to the OP I can confirm this car pushes like hell. I sadly had the gopro but it all happened so fast I didn't have time to switch it on...a real pitty.
At the next village/speed limiters, I chatted with the local who was very impressed with the car asking me what it was..."is this a GT2?" he asked...now he knows

Does anyone have personal experience with the 4.0 vs 991 TurboS on the track and or upgrades kits for the 991 turbo. My mechanic is advising me to hold off on the packaged upgrade they do until I have a chance to drive the car more. His logic is I have plenty of car already. The guys at Formula Motorsports throw in an extra 110 horsepower (I think it will be more in the end they seem to be conservative about the numbers) through the intercooler swap, turbo chargers, exhaust, software, and a bunch of other items. They had an S there having this package installed but was not able to try it as it was another guys car. Any information on upgrade experiences would be appreciated guys. Was considering changing the hood and roof too if anyone has done this yet.

Yup. I wrote that in 2012. Still loving the 4.0RS and amazed at the punch every time I get on it. Installed sharkwerks bypass couple months ago and now it sounds like a crazy menacing bat out of hell angry fighter jet. The car is even more perfect. Only frustrating thing is now with rising value am more aware of those extremely pleasurable mounting miles. Still the best weekend toy I can imagine. Was pleasantly surprised to see my thread revived after two years. How time flies!

man, i think you've reached autonirvana.
there's nothing better than this car; learn it like it's part of your soul.
do not bubble it - put 200k miles on that sucker and enjoy every one of them.
invest in something else, i'm sure you can.
enjoy.
