Default How do you kill the whistle?

.2 GT3. Love it all.
Question.
As the car revs there is a whistle though the speakers. Ok - not sure where it comes from but starting to drive me batty. Sounds like the speakers but turning the radio off doesnt kill the whistle. You rev higher - you get more whistle?

Grounding issue with your audio system?? I once played around with high end car audio and this was a common prob with poor grounding of the amps or batteries with high internal resistance... ??

If it isn't the audio system, vacuum leak somewhere?

I have the exact same problem and it drives me nuts. Sounds like its coming from the a/c vent on the left side.

I've never experienced that on my GT3 or RS. Weird.

unplug the 4 speakers (2 in the RS), if annoying sound is gone, just install a resistor on the 12v line to the head unit, and 4 more resistors in each line to the speakers, ( unless you want to pay more and get $$$ 4 corner crossovers), plug back speakers, and it should be good.

I had a similar problem with my 2001 Boxster S with the optional sound package plus.

Same problem. I've experimented with it and it seems to be linked to the passenger seat air bag sensor from what I can determine. Why? As the passenger puts their full weight onto the seat it seems to reduce or eliminate the noise. When they lift up off of the seat or adjust their seating position it comes back or gets louder. I reinstalled my original sport adaptive seats and was wondering if this was part of the issue. When I had my sport buckets in the car I never recall this happening. If/when some one finds a solution please post!

re-read thread: Great idea on installing the resistors. I will check into it.

Never had a whistle on the base 2 speaker radio, perhaps a Sound Package issue?

It's alternator whine. The individual resistors and crossovers are slightly over engineering this fix. Shocker from Rad A ground loop isolator between the amp and the head unit will likely cure the problem and it's cheap. As long as everything else is installed properly.

If you want to read more, go here: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-y5N60EX...ion_guide.html

This is a pretty good article on the why's and how's. I've been down this road with too many custom stereos than I care to remember. The GLI works very well most of the time if everything else is installed properly. And it's cheap.
