Default 3.8 RS used prices moving up?

Well, it is just a matter of supply and demand. I have been talking to recent buyers, and prices are strong on the $125k (high miles, tracked cars) to $155k (pristine examples).

Used car appreciation is a good sign.

I think the demand for the 3.8RS keeps getting stronger, and supply is limited as they are not made anymore.

The next generation GT3 is far away from being released, and based on the powertrain it will be getting (no more race tranny, no more race engine), plus the unproven racing platform (Porsche is still racing with the 997), I can't see prices for the 3.8RS softening at all.

Very likely, 3.8RS prices will move another $15k up in the next few months.

The 3.8 GT3 RS is still the best bargain track day car from Porsche.

GT3 and GT3 RS are bargains when you price out a new 991 S with the pedestrian one size fits all engine and Panamerra interior. The Boxter S which thinks looks great will price out at 80K with key options.

I hope you're wrong and I believe right now is the peak (best time to sell) but if next year a 3 year old GT3 .2 RS model is selling for 135 I'll be surprised and bummed because I may want one.

There are approx 2500 997 GT3s laying around out there and most of the original buyers will be bored and want something new.

The economy will lay flat or get worse and nobody likes to see there investments diminish and it could also spark opportunity requiring extra cash.

I see more 997 GT3s on the market next year not fewer and prices going down not up following the normal car depreciation pattern.

If not well there's lots of things you can do with 135k other than buying a 3 year old 911

just as the 3.6, the 3.8L too will become stripper material....... but not until the 991GT3 is unleashed.

for now, values are holding strong because there is no replacement in sight.

The time of the 3.8L glory is this summer and the final hurrah being the summer of 2013. When 2014 comes, the 3.8L goes the way of the 3.6L..... the ugly girl at the school dance, meh....

Come 2014 my RS is going back to stock and retired as a weekend driver secondary car. No sence in running it's brains out against bone stock 991 porsches on the track.
Perhaps being the last of the manual tranny GT cars it will be a nice little keeper. Just wish it was a 4.0L ............

good discussion! I am happy if 3.8RS holds value well, I don't care if it depreciates significantly afterwards either as I have no intention to sell.

Had great fun tracking this weekend at Ridge Motorsports park. Best lap time 1 min 57 on Michelin PSS. Record track time there by a pro driver is around 1 min 46. Not sure which car he was driving though, either a track prepared Cayman or 996 on Hoosier.

Unfortunately, the fun ended when my right front wheel control arm broke while I spun off-road turn 6 (the carousel). Car needed to be towed back to Vancouver by Bullet Racing (Big thanks to Bernie and Steve).

You guys really need to come out to Ridge, it is too much fun!

Time for a trailer Tim, you can always get your car home. You have a tow vehicle already.

Sorry to hear about your damage

Thanks for your support Ed. No need to feel sorry, just a control arm.

Problem is I don't have space to park a trailer. Will talk to you at BBC next month.

I rent a space at a storage lot not far from my home. Never have to see it unless I need it. You could also rent one from a number of places, however the tie downs are never consistent.

1:57 is awesome Tim! My best was 1:59 with my 7.2 GT3 (says one of the Corvette guys).

So sorry to hear about the control arm! You're posting now, so I assume you're 100%. A control arm breaking?! That is seriously scary stuff!!! Glad to have Bernie and Steve help you out.

-> Back on topic. I have been sniffing around for 7.2 RS for a while and have seen prices go from a low of about $110K - $115K, and now I see $120 - $125K . Yes, they have appreciated.
