Default Bridgestone RE-11?

Has anyone run the Bridgestone RE-11's at the track? Am interested in your observations as I am trying anything and everything not to change over to 18" wheels and get on the 'oosier crack cocaine train.

So far, I have tried Corsa's, MPSC's, SuperSports, & R888's. Of these, I like the MPSC's the best, but, HATE the price.

Lewis, I am running them. Problem is I don't have anything to compare to. They are my first track tires.

I decided on them because several here said they have good grip and durability for a pretty low price. Mine have 5 track days on them and look to have many more.
They are safe in the rain.

Lewis, I spent last weekend in Paver's (Lindsay's) car at Barber. This was my first on track experience with the RE 11's. I was very impressed. Very similar to the PSS's up to about 95%. Not quite as grippy at the limit as the PSS's, and I was able to get the rears kind of greasy when I drove for a few laps on Sunday, but on the other hand I liked the initial break-away characteristics of the RE 11's a bit more than the PSS's, as initial breakaway when we exceeded limits was slightly more graduual and predictable. So it's a tradeoff: PSS's have more ultimate grip but also less progressive predictable breakaway.

Veloce Raptor: How would you compare them to the MPSC's? I really like them but similar to many others, not so much the price and longevity. I have a set of RE11's on my street wheels but rarely ever use them. I didn't like their steering response relative to the MPSC's. Maybe just too new?

Thanks, guys! Comments very much appreciated and are consistent with my expectations. I was at Sebring this past weekend with the SuperSports and favorably impressed. Really was an issue of getting used to the feel vs. that of an R Comp tire. Once I got the tire pressures tuned in, the car was very predictable, just not as much grip.

Prices of the RE-11 and SuperSport tires are comparable. Maybe I'll give them a try...or stick with the frickin' MPSC's. Jeez, I wish I could make my mind up

On a warm sunny dry day, PSC's will have a bunch more grip--they are designed to do so. But on a cool and/or damp day, it may be a lot more of an even match. And if it rains, PSC's are worthless.

PSS's (Pilot Super Sports) are a lot closer to the PSC's in the dry, and have a very similar feel...and are also excellent in wet.

If I had to choose between PSS's and RE 11's for a street car that I tracked HARD, I would pick the PSS's....but the RE 11's are not far behind.

How about the new Yoko Advan AD08? They get great reviews? Anyone tried them?

MPSS and ADO8 > RE 11. RE 11 don't really like heavy cars as they get greasy when Hot. My only gripe with the PSS is the soft sidewall feels numb vs the AD08 which has a very stiff sidewall. Would love to do a back to back comparison of the 2 at the track.

ps. AD08's are less expensive also.

Only challenge with a very stiff sidewall is the R888 issue: it transmits a lot of heat to the carcass, and the tires go away sooner & are more difficult to get back. Not sure of the Yokos do this, as I haven't driven the AD08's, but a super stiff sidewall is not always a good thing.

AD08's like heat. Whole lot more wrong with the R888 than just a stiff sidewall.

I'm not a fan right now of N-Spec MPSC. I may be one of the few but I liked the grip of the R888 better.

I used 19" RE11 on my 997-S at track and street and 18" MPSC - the RE11's were very durable, very predictable, good grip when scrubbed in. I found that the MPSC's were only marginally better in the dry for me (and main advantage I think came from the lower gearing with the 18's). MPSC in rain is just not on. RE11's were OK in wet and they wear so much better.

1Gunner has been running RE11 on his 19's on his .1 GT3 and likes them. Only downside I think is that they are pretty heavy compared with other options and a smidge more expensive.

I don't have any on-track experience yet in the .1-GT3 - came with 19" MPSC's which I will be replacing with MPSS for next change. But I hear good things ...

can a tire like AD08 be shaved so that it's not squirmy the first time out? Would that even be a good thing to try anyway?

I run RE11 on 2 of my cars, and MPSS on another.

I prefer the RE11 for dry pavement, and the MPSS for wet pavement. However, RE11 get greasy on track days of 80 degrees of more.

At Homestead-DoubleInfield, the 235/265 RE11 on my Cayman produced a 1:45 lap, while a new set of 255/35R18 R6 produced a 1:42, and an old set of 285/30R18 A6 laps in the 1:43 range.

At Homestead-GrandAm, the 265/345 MPSC on my Fiat produced a 1:30.2 while the A6 295/345 a 1:26.7. These MPSC are race-spec, not the lower grip N-spec, so the N-spec are probably 1 second slower at Homestead.

The RE11 is not as fast as the N-spec MPSC, but it is less than 1 second slower at a track like Homestead, and most GT3 drovers are nowhere near the capabilities of their cars, so a few tenths given up on tires grip is nothing compared to several seconds given up by driving slow.

My Fiat rear RE11 are 2 years old, they just don't wear. They have been on the Fiat for more than 6,000 miles, they have been at California Speedway, Riverside, Homestead, Daytona, Sebring, multiple autocrosses, drag races, and they just don't die, I want to keep trying other street tires, but these ones won't die.

The Cayman RE11 have 12,000 miles, 3 SCCA National Solo events, Homestead, Sebring, autocrosses, and they won't die either.

Next time I will give the Hankook RS3 a try, they like heat, and they have more dry grip than RE11.

Hankook R-S3 is probably the best of the Street tires for grip and heat tolerance. The downside is the only front I can find that has the right diameter for the 7GT3 is a 235. The AD08 has both 255 and 265 front tires that would work diameter wise with a 305 rear.

For wet PSS>RE11>AD08>RS3.

Yes you can shave the PSS/RE11/RS3/AD08 AutoX does it all the time. From my personal experience when the AD08 gets down to less than 2/32 it goes to slip and slide mode.
