Oh and the good news is that the dealer did not detect the hypothetic firmware during the reflash operation...
They can't, especially for an OBD reflash.
If the number of programming, and DME hours / klm look legit, and no weird faults are present they won't see it unless they are specifically looking for it, in which case they have to ask headquarters for assistance.
Even printing and reading the extended VAL everything looks okay.
I had my yearly service today for my 2010 rs and I also had this re-flash. the Tech at Harper said it was a factory recall for an error in the oil pressure sensor that could cause issues at shut down and restart.
He let me know it would not make me drive any better or make the car faster.
Anyway, good service, new tires, looking forward to VIR soon
Took the car into Sonnen Saturday for its annual maintenance/service and they reflashed the DME due to a recall/TSB.
Was unable to obtain details... just a heads up/fyi.
This is NOT a recall. It is just an ECU software update to fix some of the know bugs in the software that currently exist. I had my car in for service just over a month ago and my dealer notified me that they would be doing a software update when they ran my VIN for latest bulletins. They told me it was to resolve the random ECU faults. It is just to fix the random error codes that a lot of us experience with these cars. It is a complete re-flash, so yes it will wipe out any aftermarket reprogramming. So far, I have not seen any of the typical fault codes: traction failure, ABS failure, PSM failure, oil pressure indicator failure, etc. BTW, if you got an Oil Pressure Indicator Failure the gauge just stops working (I have personally experience this one). It does not actually effect the engine or lubricating system.
This in not unusual and Porsche does routine software updates all the time. My 996 X51 was loaded with the latest flash of factory DME software in 2009, which was 3 versions later that what was released in production in 2004. It is no different than Microsoft releasing a service pack update for an OS.
I got the oil pressure gauge malfunction notice twice last week and the gauge went to zero immediately afterward. Car is at the dealer currently getting the software update.
