I hate R888s in the rain. I think they are the one of the worst options for rain tires along the lines of the MPSC. Yes they have grooves but they do nothing for channeling the water.

Mosport is the same, especially with the concrete patches at almost every apex.

On rainy days I bring the Audi, still get the extreme pucker effect down turn 2.....

^ This is fact.

40 cars in our local Porsche chapter went on a week-long road trip last year. 5 crashed out under this freak weather condition called "light rain". 4 of those ran MPSCs. and the 5th was running R888s. I nearly lost it twice myself going as slow as 50mph on MPSCs. Car would aquaplane everytime it went over painted road markings as if they're black ice. It was the worst fecking drive in my life. I resorted to having a 997TT "clear" the waters directly in front of my path--TT ran Trofeos and was stable up to about 80mph.

In hindsight I should've stopped driving altogether but we had 800miles to cover that day. Suffice it to say, I've learned my lesson about DOT-R's and MPSCs.

MPSCs are not advisable if rain is more than a passing possibility. They're downright dangerous and the R888 is not much better. For your own sake, if you expect rain, go with the slower tires: MPSS or Corsa Systems. If you must gamble, at least go with Trofeos.

Seth, what is your favorite dry weather track tire? Something for the GT3 that you can drive to the track on.

mdrums: My old favorite with the 996 GT3 was the Toyo RA1. When I ran them on that car I would get them shaved to 4/32nds so they really weren't great rain tires. They were good for a damp track but not a soaking wet track since they were shaved. The full tread Toyos are great for what you are looking to do but the problem is they like to squirm a lot on the track. Honestly I feel right now the best tire that is readily available for our cars and for dry weather driving to and from the track is the MPSC. They don't offer the fastest lap times on the track in the dry but they are consistent, easy to drive on to the track, will last longer than a Hoosier, and you don't have to get them shaved to feel good with them. Downside is they are expensive!

Anybody heard anything further on the rumor Toyo will be re-introducing the RA1 in 19" sizes? ETA?

Yep, I use to run RA1's full thread (squirmy) and sometimes shaved...but as you know they are no longer available in 18" sizes for a 997 based car.

If I had a 996 based car I'd run Nitto NT01's.

I've been on 18" and 19" R888's for a few years now and am trying out my 1st set of stock sized 19" MPSC. The 235 MPSC fronts don't have the grip R888 in 245 or 255 18" sizes have. I have a used set of MPSC 245/35/19 to try out at Sebring in May. Maybe that will be the ticket.

Took everyone's advice. Here's what I did:

New of OZ Superforgiattas shod with MPSSs for rain wheels/tires, and

New MPSCs for my dedicated track wheels/tires on my existing OZ Sepers.

It's only money, right?

WTF?

Sepers = Supers, as in OZ Superforgiattas.

I WILL get this typing thing down.

Let's fit them.

It's a widebody so I think they would fit. I'll be at Orbit on Wednesday morning with my lowly GTS if you're around.

I hope to get this odd alignment front track issue taken care of and then see what adjustable sways would fit my car.

Sure they fit. They are on Erik's car..

Stop the insanity now and get all 18" dump 19" OEM and drive only RA1 rear and NT01 front. There is enough left for years and years.

Maybe I'm missing something....were do you you buy 335 RA1? Toyo doesn't make this anymore.
