Default Proxes R888 compared to MPSCs in the rain?

Time to replace my MPSCs. I was very happy with them, and got more heat cycles than expected. I also like how they feel. I want to get them again, but have a 2 day event ad Mid Ohio, and it rains there very frequently. So, I was thinking about going with another tire I have a .2 GT3 and I trailer it. Tire Rack has the Proxes for 1K less than the MPSCs. I have read about how quickly they wear, but how are they in the rain? I was on MidOhio with my MPSCs in the rain, and was very, very afraid.

I don't have a separate set of wheels for rain tires yet.

Thanks for any feedback.

With proper punctuation and spelling. Sorry.

Corsa is much much better in the rain than R888 or MPSC. Corsa or the new Michelin Super Sports...Not Sport Cups.

Corsas or michelin super sports... Later of the two if rain is pretty much a sure thing... Better to be a second slower and enjoy the whole track day regardless of weather than sitting on the sideline wishing or risking an accident...

All good points. Thanks for the feedback. I am considering another set of wheels for some rain tires--MPSS, and the MPSCs for my dedicated wheels. If I whimp out on anther wheel set, I will likely go Corsa this time.

Pirelli Trofeo's for the rain, skidpad #'s in the dry are comparable, in the wet are quite high.

I've run R888s, MPSCs and Corsas on my GT3 and don't agree as far as the wet goes. By far, the worst wet tire is an MPSC. Even full tread, I find it dangerous just driving on the street to the track. I hydroplane on every puddle. On a track in the rain, even at 8/10s they are down right scary. Both Corsas and R888s are both pretty good in the rain even down to 2/32s. I go faster in the rain on R888s than Corsas. I can drive about 9-9.5/10s on R888s in the rain and I find them extremely consistent. Corsas by comparison are a little slower turning in and just a little slower around the track in the wet.

Keep in mind that this is in the wet and not the dry. In the dry, I do like R888s when you start out on a 60 degree morning. They really like cool temps. That love affair ends as soon as it gets warmer. As soon as it gets into the 90's, that grip goes completely away and all they do is slide around. In high heat, you are better off with SuperSports. If I were to get a set of tires just for the wet, it would R888s. Just for the dry, MPSCs. Both, Corsas. I have a set R888s on the car right now and a set of new Corsas ready to go on when I wear these out.

The MPSC's are horrible and downright dangerous in the wet. Forget DE's just in the streets in a So. Florida downpour they are pathetic.

^ yup
888s are better in the rain. Way better. Mich N and non-N suck. (Even when grooved.)
Other than that, the toyos are borderline average. At least in 19" you have a few more options.

Mid Ohio in the rain is like driving on ice. I stay in the garages and relax when it rains.
