Default Side muffler delete vs. xpipe/ bypass pipe

I thought all the rage was the xpipe in the back, but I have noticed that more and more people are doing the side muffler delete. What are the advantages to doing that vs the xpipe? More power? Better sound? What led to the migration?

Is there a company making a kit for it?

All money a side akrapovic race

U can stop by and hear mine, hands down best exhaust

For street rear delete sounds cool, for track side mufflers crack apart

Reason heat on rear tires and weight.
The x-pipe is easy to install. Sounds great. I did this when I got my car.
But now I am having Orbit put back the rear center muffler and taking out the two side mufflers because of the heat at the rear tires as well as the weight is better with one rear vs two sides.

Hello,

We offer a few options with this configuration, that goes from the correct link pipes for side muffler delete, to full systems. Like GT3DE said, we have been performing the set up since 2007.
The bypass is a great cost effective and great sound option, but when you're looking for weight reduction, power, torque and heat dissipation there are better options.
Both Izzone, GT3DE, Trakcar, JP175, Erik, Nizer and a few others were provided or performed by Orbit Racing.

How much power and torque is gained?

It really depends on which set up you're looking for. Just the side muffler delete, the gains are pretty mild, but the weight and heat of the rear tires are considerable.
The gains are on the complete system with headers, you will be able to see some considerable gains.

More important is less weight and no loss of power

Not all exhaust make power

I saw a euro pipe race on dyno....scary low numbers

I agree 100%, most gains on NA cars, are not worth the money that the systems cost. I would spend the money on a good suspension instead of exhaust and intake.

I read somewhere that the removal of one set of the mufflers actually reduced the amount of power, if this is this not the case with having the Centre muffler only, then is it when you run the side mufflers only?

The GT3 engine runs extremely hot.

Deleting the side mufflers accomplishes several things:

- New air going straight to the engine heads.
- Lower temperatures on the rear tires, the tires that work the hardest in a GT3
- Great sound
- a 44 lbs weight reduction from behind the rear axle, the worse location for weight on a GT3.

I bet to say that the side muffler delete is a good 0.4 secs lap time improvement at Sebring, using just weight reduction, and ignoring the benefit of better weight distribution and more rear traction. So, the actual improvement might be better than 0.6 secs.
