Question....Oil Change GT3 997.1
Hey folks,
I'm changing the engine oil & transmission oil (gear box)
Any suggestions on oil weight or type?
I'm in zone 3 (Carolinas) some cold weather but nothing too severe. roughly 5 DE events a year.
I attached a pic of mans best friend.

Search the forum...ton of oil threads...however just use what came in the car Mobil 1 0w40...my local Porsche dealer uses Castrol 5w40 because they get deal on it.....See your deal on search forums for Porsche approved oil brands.

I always used Motul 300V on my cars, as they are Esther based, fully synthetic. Now I've been using Mobil, but the new oils don't carry enough Zinc which is one of the main elements to protect your engine, and that happens due emissions.
Bottom line is up to you, or if you always test your samples, and have a full log book, you may find what suits your engine better.

You could consider the Porsche approved Mobil 1 in 5W50. Hard to find, but it's out there.

Tim, not sure if we have covered this offline but I use Mobil1 5W-50. I get it through Petroliance (an oil distributor) since it is not stocked anywhere retail. Better protection than 0W-40 and not the thick non-approved 15W-50 that some guys use.
Oh yeah, pass the please......

I'd also recommend you do Used Oil Analysis (Blackstone, for example) on the engine oil and trans/gear lube, so you can see for yourself if you are making the right choices (brand, viscosity, intervals) for you, your car, and driving style. If you buy in bulk, they cost about $19/test. One test won't tell you much, but over the course of time, you can build and see a nice trend.

I just changed out the oil in my .1 and I switched it out to Motul Xcess 5/40. It was running that Mobil 1 Euro spec 0/40 but Motul is a better oil and I use it in all my cars.

Good observation that 0 and 5 are not the same. Trust me, homework has been completed
FYI....the heat these motors see you will want that more viscous 50 wt oil. The difference b/t 0 and 5 at startup is negligible for those of us that don't live in sub freezing climates.
Here is the approved listing of Mobil1 oils........
