Default Airbag coding

Could somebody advise me please....

I have a 2008 GT3 which I have just had 996 GT3 seat installed into. The dealer is insisting that the airbags (seat) cannot be deactivated via programming and the airbag light remains on, and are wanting to charge me for a different airbag control unit.

Where in the tool or which setting is it that they need to change?

Many thanks for any quick replies.

Your dealer is 100% wrong - 100%.

I have had this done 2x - once at Porsche dealer Jack Daniels in New Jersey - USA and once in Toronto Canada at dealer Pfaff.

I have a 2007 GT3 and I'm using the 996 Clubsport seats.

They need the Porsche Software diagnostic tool and they just have to drill down into the menus - sorry can't help more than this. You can tell them this has been done hundreds of times - maybe even a thousand - at dealers all across North America where the Clubsport Option was not available.

When they do it correctly, the airbag light will flash about 10 times on startup and then go off.

Paul, does it flash 10 times every start up?

Irritating thing is car is back in Dubai, but I am in South Africa for the holidays. When I get back, picking car up and tracking it the next day. So trying to resolve remotely

Every time i believe, but, I think the first time I had this done in NJ it didn't?

But, I just can't be certain because it is not something I'm looking at.

I actually had this exact conversation with the tech that did it the second time in Toronto when I noticed it - and he said that he has done it to a a bunch of cars (the dealer Pfaff has a lot of cars that do track days) and he said that every car does this at startup. I sort of argued with him that my car didn't do this before, but then I realized that I usually am backing the car out of a tight garage or putting on a helmet or fixing my harnesses that there is no way that I would actually know this.

I have 996GT3 Seats in my 997.1 GT3, and the airbag light is turned off. It will blink 3 times on start up, but after that it is off. You need access to a PIWIS to shut it off, phone another dealer or an Indy that has a PIWIS.

Just wanting to check that no part is needed and that this is a software issue only.

Also is it 3 or 10 blinks on start-up?

Mooty, sent them this I copied from an earlier post of yours.

the sequence procedure for unhooking the air bag warnings:
Program car to ignore seat belt latches, thorax airbags and AWS.*
• From the main PIWIS menu*
• Select POSIP
• Select CODING
• Scroll down the list to find entries for driver and passenger thorax airbags and turn them to off/no.
• Scroll down to find entries for AWS and driver and passenger seat belt buckles. Turn all*
• Driver Thorax Airbag : No*
• Passenger Thorax Airbag : No*
• Driver Seatbelt Buckle: No*
• Passenger Seatbelt Buckle: No*
• AWS : No*
No more error codes*

every time i remove my stock seats and install the GT2 buckets i also get an airbag code.

dealer removes it every time.

that being said, my GT2 seats also have airbags like the stock seats so the configuration is for air bag differences.

It has been mentioned that if you install the seats without the key in the ignition no airbag codes will fault?

I told them to disconnect the battery prior to starting work.

How will I know if they did not do this and fired something?

ok, i noticed we are talking about two different things.
when you install/uninstall seats, the will trigger the airbag fault light. it may or may not happen with or without battery connected. it's not consistent. but the dealer can easily turn this error off. if they cant even figure this out, you need a different dealer.

the info i posted and someone reposted here, is to turn off the airbag light permanently, such that you can install any seat with or without airbag, the light will just blink few times and then go out.

this is 100% programing only. you do not need any physical parts to be provided to make it work.

there were done on all my 7.1 and 7.2 GT3 variants. they all worked.
all of them are US spec cars.
