I got some interesting feedback about the 991C2S today from someone who has been driving and racing Porsche's for years.

He loved it. Says its an amazing car. Chassis is the best he's ever driven, and the car still behaves like a 911. Also that the GT3 will have its own chassis. (needs confirmation). And that the electro-mechanical steering was chosen also for link-up with PDCC.

The 9A1 has to be better than the Mezger. Porsche racing cars have not been doing so well for a while, and they need to respond. That means changing things, so invariably people like us will be apprehensive.

I am sure it will be amazing.

Just please not $200K...

I can imagine that the Em steering makes it simpler to integrate with the PDCC since I expect steering angle and rate of change are significant inputs into the PDCC "resistance" ...

I would expect the GT3 to have different suspension setup (is this what you mean by chassis)?

As for the "new" engine, we will have to wait and see, I still think the Mezger would be competitive if it was not run with restrictor plates ...

only time will tell ...

Again, not sure, but the 991 chassis is apparently a "revolution" from the 997 chassis - which is surprising. The 991 GT3 chassis is also supposed to be a evolution of the revolution... argh I'm getting a headache. Anyway, this is unconfirmed, its hearesy, but it came from a good source so I'm inclined to believe it might be true.

what would the motivation of a new chassis ...

is this perhaps referring to the prior practice of using the C4 and C4S tubs for the GT3 and RS due to the additional bracing and hence stiffness over the 2's?

I brought up the same point as you, and the response was that they were not going to share tubs anymore.

Its probably wrong info. I can't see PAG going to the trouble, why not have the C2 carry the tub? Spread the cost around... but we will see. Anyway I am not going 991 before 2014, so am not rushed...

sounds hugely unlikely to me... I would expect them to go with the C4/S tub as in the past ... can it be economical to develop a completely separate chassis for the GT3/RS/Cup/RSR line?

As you say, we are not in a rush .. after all we haven't even seen or heard anything about the powerplant yet ...

Larry, please don't say things like this - it will only hurt us if that becomes the expectation There is no reason that the new GT3 shouldn't be more than 4% more than the 3.8 (new price ~$120k). After all, cost of production should be lower with the Mezger gone now.

I hope the 991 GT3 restores some more life in the steering system (I imagine that the Sport button will reduce the servo assist - let's just hope the feel and feedback return too).

So efficient, that Larry...
