Clutch failed. Inner spring took out pressure plate

Dealer installed 4.0 pressure plate and clutch. These parts are revised from 3.8 parts

12,500 miles (appx 6,500 track)

Release bearing failed at 14K miles, about 5K track miles.
Release bearing and PP replaced the std. superseding part which is the 4.0PP.

It was decided not to replace the clutch because it looked like new, not knowing at the time that the clutch also has been replaced with the superseding part number which is also from the 4.0.
Within a week and 100 miles the clutch failed, destroying new 4.0PP and Release bearing.

If they had told me I would have happily paid for the clutch upgrade, but Porsche is slow notifying dealers.
Maybe even tries to keep this problem quiet?

Everything is now working fine with these part #’s:

PP failure at 1500 miles ( one of the earliest). posted on the forum.
PP failure at 2000 miles.
Solution: After second failure, Dealer installed the old type PP 996#....works like a charm so far.

<4000 miles, 6 track days, 70% time track use, no clutch or PP problem, but LSD very likely gone.

Can we link this thread to the one listing all the failures experienced by actual GT3 owners?

I know most people believe these cars are reliable, but one thing is wanting to believe, and another one is reality.

Clutch had little holes where the metal cracks out and lets the spring out.
New 4.0 no little holes.

My pressure plate failed at 19,000 KM - about 12,000 miles. Replaced with RS 4.0 version with bolts in place of rivets. I know of 4 others in our local club which also failed. That's 5 out of 7 so far. Seems to be a systemic weakness.
