No sir! That's exactly what this owner wanted. Due to the differences (vario intake and exhaust cams for example) and already larger bore we just didn't think the cost would be justified;(

The LWFW makes an improvement alright! Try running with weights in your hands vs no weight to understand better

I'm trying to hold myself back before doing anything stupid and spending money on the car

It really does! I must say even a tad more on the 3.6. The pistons are lighter and the entire assembly revs that bit quicker

Mdrums, that is a heck of a drumset in your avatar! I'd love to bang around on that thing some day.

No it's the support bracket No real change in back pressure due to the size of our tubing and then no balance pipe on the stock one either so none on ours

I once read somewhere that putting a LWFW on a non-RS GT3 might lead to damage because of the extra vibrations it causes. Apparently the RS version has some different pieces somewhere to counter this issue. I can't recall the details because it's quite a while ago.

I am talking 997 mk1 here, dunno if it is different for the mk2.

No sir... no difference internally. And on the MK2 both the RS and non-RS use the same pulley. On the MK1 the non-RS' came with a different pulley.

Found it back!

And it was not from some Random Joe. It came from Porsche!

Technical Information
Service
36/08 ENU 1360 1
GT3 Engine: Flywheel and Pulley
Vehicle Type: 911 GT3 (997)
Model Year: As of 2007
Concerns: Flywheel and pulley
Information: Replacing dual-mass flywheel with single-mass flywheel.
We have discovered that the dual-mass flywheel, which is installed as standard in the GT3 engine (vehicle type 997810/-811), is being replaced in the dealer organization with the single-mass flywheel from the GT3 RS engine (vehicle type 997850/-851).

Information

Due to an increasing number of reported faults, we expressly wish to point out that the installation of the single-mass flywheel (from the GT3 RS) in the GT3 engine is not approved by Porsche.

Since the 911 GT3 (997) engine application is designed for the dual-mass flywheel, conversion to the single-mass flywheel results in the following problems and consequences:

• The single-mass flywheel causes fluctuations and vibration in the lower rpm range, thereby reducing the smooth-running performance of the engine.

• The crankshaft is subjected to one-sided loading, causing stress peaks that can result in damage to the crankshaft.

• The one-sided loading of the crankshaft can cause the pulley to come loose, resulting in damage to the belt drive and engine.

• Any damage relating to conversion or damage that can be attributed to conversion is not covered under warranty.

Please advise your customers of this information accordingly.

Ok the engine itself is not a GT1 block but there are some interesting points being made towards the end of the thread.

I am not pro or contra this mod, just want to share some opinions with you guys.

But it's the same crankshaft? Same everything inside and out:P We did use the lighter RS pulley on the MK1s from the RS though.

In that renntech thread they talk about balancing issues that one might encounter.
