Heck, the RS clutch is nothing compared to a 996Cup clutch... that thing felt as stiff as a brake pedal!

Still lighter than plenty of 1960s/1970s American muscle cars.

Ummmm. I'm going to post my opinion on that "accumulator" topic brought up several posts ago.

1). in the 993 series, ONLY the Turbo has an assisted clutch. That was done because the pressure plate clamping forces were high enough that an unassisted version would get pretty uncomfortable.

2). In the 993TT, (and the 996TT, I think) the accumulator's sole function is to store pressure to help activate the clutch WHEN THE ENGINE IS NOT RUNNING. It stores enough pressure to allow about 25 actuations before it empties itself. It does not affect the clutch when the engine (and boost pump) is functioning.

Perhaps this helps? Perhaps this is even true?

You get used to it in a couple of days. Plus it will help you even your body out from that heavy right foot.

Steve, whatcha doin' over here?

you are correct, as for 993s, only the 993 turbo has the accumulator and power assist

and as already said, the clutch on the gt3 feels "right"
strictly a matter of opinion when it comes to "right" of course, but you can definitely feel the engagement point better on a gt3

I get in my BMW and it feels numb.
easier in traffic but sloppy for aggressive driving

Exactly. The weight's a nuisance in daily traffic but it all comes together when you're dancing with the pedals on the track. Heck, when my OEM clutch wears out I may even be tempted to put in a heavier pressure plate!

for what its worth, the 996 C2, C4, C4S, targa and GT3 all didnt have any assist either. only the turbo car got it.
same goes for the 997 models too. no assist on the C2, C4, C4S, targa etc. they all use the exact same system as the GT3.
puts the culprit right back to the old fashioned pressure plate i guess.

Take a step back in time to the 1970s or 1980s when the springs on a Carrera RSR pressure plate would allow you to forego a monthly gym membership. (I also found that they caused the clutch cables to stretch a lot until you got them broken in!) Although heavier than that in the standard Carreras, the GT3 clutch isn't really that bad.

yes, higher clamp force combined with no assist

exactly

I had to ask my son few days ago if our M3 clutch pedal was broken (so buttery).... no other clutch pedal but the GT3 feels right anymore for me...

I got stuck in traffic yesterday around Boston due to accident. Even with a sore left leg (from a dirt bike get-off), the clutch was not that bad. Not sure I'd want a Boston commute everyday though?

The problem is that after a couple days of GT3-only driving you tend to kick the clutch pedal of your average sedan through the floor the first time you use it

I made the mistake of doing the commute from Delray Beach to Miami at 4:30PM on friday. If that would be my daily commute, I would definetly end up in jail. The ride home at 6:30 AM Saturday morning was fine though, although that warranted way more jail time..
