PTS on GT3 RS 4.0

My 1st choice PTS shot down !
Here is the chain email prompted by my initial call to my dealer.
The email chain below starts at my dealer >me > PCNA & PCA > PAG > back to me.
Most of the "Full" names in the email chain have been abbreviated but you'll get the idea from this chain what the PAG postion is, which is bewildering because Porsche "Exclusive" has always promoted the fact that they could paint any color requested !
Whether this is the real reason, I cannot say, but this is what was relayed to me.
I tried !

Hi Chuck
Per our conversation this morning, the man at PCNA who is the contact for the US dealer body in the distribution department is J.W. He is the liaison between the US and Germany ("AG")
Our regional manager ("RM") knows of your particular case, but he is in no way, shape or form in a position to do anything concerning the Exclusive options- he directs the enquiries to J.W.
Mr. Von Platen is the best person to direct your/our request. If anyone can get it done in Germany, he is the man.

Manny,
It was nice chatting with you about Porsches this morning.
After speaking with you regarding my PTS request for my GT3RS, I received a call and email from the salesman at Porsche of Annapolis confirming that Porsche AG has approved my 2nd PTS choice of Riviera Blue but some odd reason, are having trouble approving my 1st choice of Raspberry which is a 1973-74 factory Porsche color offered on the RS and RSR models.
I have attached a photo below of a '74 RSR in Raspberry.
Thanks for your help,
Chuck

Hi Paul,
Chuck Goldsborough buys a GT3 variant ('05, '07RS, '08RS, '11RS) every other year. The dealer is telling him that Porsche won't paint it raspberry color. I told him that I would forward this to you since I couldn't remember the gentleman in charge of Porsche Exclusive in the USA. I thought it was Sasha. Hopefully he can get his color. I know the window of pulling the trigger is nearing soon.
Thanks
Manny

Hello Manny and Chuck,
I have checked internally on this and rec'd the following reply. Basically it is true that the colors that are possible at present are restricted. This has to do with the new paint facility and the PTS testing process.
Sorry not to be able to give you a more positive reply.
Take care,
Paul.

Hi Paul,
Unfortunately, PAG is only approving colors for the 4.0 that have been painted over the last couple of months. Reason is that those colors have already gone through the PTS testing process. For colors that have not been tested yet the time frame until the 911 GT3 RS 4.0s have to be produced would not be sufficient for testing and sourcing of that color. Even if a color had been used a few years back doesn't mean that it would meet the (strict) quality requirements now.
So, if PCNA does not get an approval from PAG side, there is no other way to make this happen - sorry!

My story has a slightly happier ending. I worked through my dealer and with the East Coast rep for Porsche Exclusive. I had had a very early production date which I exchanged for a later date, hoping PTS would be available. As soon as PTS was announced, I submitted the request for the color I wanted - a 73 RS color (Chartreuse). About the 14th of July (the final PTS date) I was told that the color was 'in testing' and might or might not be available. I then found out all the non-metallic colors available and looked closely at Lime Green (74 RSR color) and Birch Green (72-73 color) Both were available. I asked Jim Newton to spray out a test of each and then drove to CT to see a chartreuse RS. Chartreuse was clearly THE color I wanted. Although Birch Green looked great in the Newton sample, several good friends whose opinions I trust had seen the Birch Green 997.2 RS ordered by Pioneer in San Diego. Both said it was oddly a bit 'limp' so I was worried. I have another Lime Green car - a 74 Euro Carrera - and while I like it, one wouldn't call it a complex color. A week later, I was told that chartreuse would not be available, and asked which other color I wanted. The final drop dead day, I got a call from the East Coast Porsche Exclusive rep and my salesman, Scott Doty at Danbury Porsche and was told that they would paint the car chartreuse.
I also specified deviated stitching and discovered that when it is spec'd for the dash, one gets a full leather interior - including dash. I have found Porsche Exclusive to be INCREDIBLE - able to navigate the extrordinarily complex factory requirements. There are still a couple of requests they are working on, but so far they've been able to do almost everything I've wanted. (EXCEPT to delete the silver parentheses around the front side air intakes - apparently that graphic is under the clearcoat). They also can neither change the color of nor delete the RS4.0 in the headrests. (They CAN change the color of the door straps) ALtogether, they have been TERRIFIC.
