RS 4.0 lap time on The Ring:
"Sport Auto" July edition:
Nürburgring RS 3.8 = 7.33 min
RS 4.0= 7.30 min
Hockenheim RS 3.8 = 1.09,6 min
RS 4.0 = 1.09,5 min
Not such a difference afterall....

Hmm...perhaps Porsche shot itself in the foot by providing 'unusually healthy' press cars for the 3.8 runs...

No idea. I think B-G. But the ring is so inconsistent that this difference says nothing.
On the other hand, the identical lap times at Hockenheim are odd.
+50PS and so much more torque should count there for something more.

Full lap! I don't have the RS video, but here is part of the lap in 7.40 of the GT3 done in 2009, it is pretty fast!

Hockenheim .1 second almost suggests that the gearing for the 4.0 isn't correct for it's TQ delivery.
Is it true the redline is 8250?
If that's true, it may just mean that at Hockenheim, they kept running out of rpms and they had to do a gear change(s) that the 3.8 didn't. That and or the driver didn't downshift, thinking they had enough TQ for a certain corner and then left actual HP on the table.
I will say, that when you compare a 997 GT3. mk1 vs a 996 GT3.mk2, you don't see the 997s add 30HP until you hit around 130mph - so on it maybe at Hockenheim it just doesn't show.
For those that have driven Hockenheim, how are the brake zones? If bumpy, ABS may also be an issue as faster just makes bumpy worse for the OE ABS unit.

For Hockenheim the comment in the test is that the 3.8 test was done in cold conditions whereas for the 4.0 it was 28°C i.e. tires were getting too hot...
