Porsche oil filter wrench
Hey ~ Can anyone tell me if I need the oil filter wrench to remove the oil filter cap on my .2 GT3? Will quality oil filter pliers with a rag between the two surfaces suffice?

You can try to find a cap/wrench at Autozone, I tried 3 different ones- none of which worked. Ended up buying the Porsche one from Pelican...
I wouldn't use oil filter pliers and rags- too easy to crack the plastic...

Thanks! I buck up and buy Porsche's over-priced unit.

Here's the hazet tool. 2169. I believe hazet is oem for porsche.
Anyway I got mine on eBay a while back for cheap. Here's the item#190540607175

Dumb question, but why do you prefer the 3/8 drive rather than the socket? I guess I realize why just less re-positioning of the drive?
Are there any other differences which would make you lean towards the Hazet? The pricing is very close, once you add shipping to the Hazel and a discount the Porsche unit. I have a 27mm wrench which I could use for the Porsche piece. Once you break it free you can spin it easily right?
I gathered the other tools I need: the all important turkey baster, 19mm, 15mm sockets, 27mm wrench, the excellent 12.5 quart Wedco ultra low profile oil catch basin... Never been so excited to change my oil!
Thanks again in advance.

you'll need both a 27mm wrench and socket for the oil change.
anyway, I got the Hazet one because it allows me to use both just the ratchet and/or ratchet + 27mm socket. It was cheaper too. Both are probably fine.
excellent choice on the wedco.

Thanks Peer!
I can wait a few days. I am going to order the Hazet or Porsche OEM tomorrow. If I lived a few miles closer I'd probably take you up on that just to get it done tomorrow.
Which do you have?

Anyway, just to be clear I won't need a 27mm socket if I have a 27mm wrench, right? 15mm socket for the crank case bolt, 19mm socket for the oil bag, 27mm wrench to hold secure the fixed nut on the oil tank and again the 27mm wrench for the Porsche OEM filter tool if I go that route. This is the way I have planned it anyway.
