I doubt that most of the posters have ever driven the Elise, much less owned one. I had a 2005 Elise for 3 years and enjoyed almost every minute, except tracking it with Porsches was no fun because it just wasn't fast enough out of the corners or on long straights. But you don't need or want another track car, right? I thought the interior was fine although a little Spartan. The seats were comfortable for me (5'10"), even on long trips (like Philly to VIR.) I would avoid the sport exhaust - it's a little too loud for sustained street use. I stiffened the suspension for the track but there is no need to do so for the street. The non- sport suspension and wheel package, which is a little narrower on the front, is more enjoyable for back roads. The motor and tranny are strong and bulletproof - the only downside are they don't sound very impressive. As to general reliability, I had very few problems and all were easily and quickly handled under warranty. I would agree that the cars are fragile in the sense that if they are hit, it can be expensive, but the bonded chassis is extremely strong and roll bars are built in. I wouldn't trade my GT3 for another Elise but it would be nice to still have both.

I been considering the same option for a fun street car for wife and I. I think you should get a Spyder. 6spd should be low $60K or high $50K

I checked on MANHEIM, they sold 6 in recent months. Average price with an average of 1400 miles was $63,000.
The highest was a black one for $69K and the lowest was for $61K
Hope this helps a bit

Quotes from the wife on her first ride in it:
"Is it supposed to be this loud?" (just idling in the garage)
"I can feel everything in the road."
In the price range you're looking at I'm struggling to think of something that will be as rewarding as the Spyder.
Maybe the Audi TTS roadster?

Laguna Dude- the Spyder looks/feels like a car twice the price. And the quality is there. For a street car I would pick the Spyder (actually I did ). Not sure about cargo capacity of the Lotus, but the Spyder packs away an amazing amount of crap.
No need to change anything for street use. If you do, I would suggest installing MPSC's on it which will transform the handling from great to more-great

I have reserved 1 of the 15, Final Edition Lotus Elise SC's. It's Ardent Red. These cars are loaded with every conceivable option.

I just purchased a 2011 Boxster Spyder! So excited!
It's being delvered either tomorrow or Saturday. It's silver on black with sport buckets and manual. I think I paid fair price.. not a steal of a deal, but it's the only one with sport buckets and manual on the market. It's going to be a fun weekend! Thank you all for your help. And if anyone is interested in the Lotus, I can transfer my reservation to you.
