Default trickle charger

Does anyone know what type of trickle charger is okay for our gt3s? I know the question may be rather silly but is their anything proprietary about the Porsche charger? I have an older BMW trickle charger which I believe has shXX the bed. It will not go to constant green; only flickers for a while then turns back red.

Porsche has one at $110 and so does Sears at $30. Any differences that matter?

My rather old Sears model works just fine. Don't forget to actually turn it on when you hook it up (ask me how I know!).

This is what I have used the last 7 years. Flawless, works on Fiat, VW and many others. I used it on my state of the art Lithium battery, while testing it before installing in the car..

+1 on the Battery Tender. It maintains the battery and doesn't over cook it.

I use a Ctek 3300 which is about $57 on amazon. I believe the Porsche charger is a rebranded Ctek.

Ctek's english site is here: http://smartercharger.com/

I have converted all my battery maintainers to those made by C-Tek. Their important advantage is that they use a high-frequency switching regulator to avoid 120 HZ ripple currents caused by too small or old-age-failed filter capacitors in conventional trickle chargers.

I can't emphasize enough the danger of 120 HZ (100 HZ in EU) ripple currents left over from rectified AC in conventional chargers. Long exposure periods to ripple currents can completely whack a car battery. I know, I've had it happen to me repeatedly until I discovered the cause.

Brand new conventional chargers with transformers delivering rectified AC to filter capacitors are just fine if the manufacturer specified a large enough capacitor. Some don't. Also, over time, inexpensive electrolytic capacitors slowly lose their ratings and become "smaller", and less effective, with age. Power line surges (lightning, etc.) can cause electrolytic capacitors to fail completely without any outward indication.

After I converted to C-Tek chargers, I haven't had a single battery go bad in my entire collection. Before the change, I'll bet I replaced at least a dozen batteries over the years.

Great product! I am ordering one. Porsche's looks just like this but with a $50.00 price hike and a Porsche logo.
