Track feedback
Hi all,
Fun weekend @ Yas Marina... had the camera all set up for a "Friday night under the lights" but forgot to switch it on during the filming run
Got to enjoy my Sharkwerks bypass... what a sound. Dunno if anyone else has the "gurgle" around 4-5k rpm when coming off throttle. Sounds like a F-car lol
Anyway...
In a previous thread I was complaining about oversteer, oversteer, oversteer. Checked alignment and I was at -1.7F, -1.9R, front sway one from soft, rear full stiff, toe unknown.
Went to -2.06F -2.4R, zero toe front -1.2mm/-1.2mm rear, sway one from stiff front, middle rear, and it improved a lot but still struggled with rear grip. I envy all of you who complain of understeer; only in the slowest corners do I get a whiff of the front end losing grip and I dare trailbrake.
Had some awesome moments in the T2/3 left-right 100mph section.
Had a pro coach in the car with me who said "rear is too stiff" "car is letting you down". He took it out for a lap and got out of shape almost immediately. If nothing else that at least eliminates the driver (me) as a cause of the problems...
Car is on PS2s with 4mm tread front, 3.3mm rear. Tire pressures were 32-34psi HOT (like, brake pads smoking hot). They are 2 years old (2009). Am thinking they might be the culprits...
So, a little diagnostic help!
MPSCs will be fitted in October when the oven otherwise known as the Dubai summer starts to cool down...

If you can I would suggest you still take it there and get Richard to set it up. Not sure if you know his pedigree but he has worked with UK Porche Cup champions and knows his stuff. He here leaves mid July.

I have a .1 as well. My cars rear is twitchy as well. You have to be very delicate with the throttle.
Your sway bar set up is definitely seems wrong. I don't know how you manage to steer the car with the front set so stiff. With a butt-heavy car, you need a little flexibility at the front to be able turn in. Do like mine: 1 from full soft front, middle rear.
Alignment: you always need more camber up on the front to get grip.
I'm really surprised you could drive the car on the track. It sounds like a recipe for understeer...

I spun all the time with fried LSD. The last nail in the coffin was at 11k miles I could not brake late at all- rear would wag side to to side. Had it replaced with a guard unit. Best money I ever spent. Did 997.1 come with 28/40? If u plan to upgrade down the line get the 40/60 or if primarily track get 50/80. I improved 2 secs off my best laptime with ease. Only way to find out if LSD is kaput is open it up but I did the jack up one rear wheel and tried spinning it- no resistance whatsoever. With guard it locked like glue : ). Mike

I talked with Matt regarding this before doing my LSD, he specifically suggested 40/60 to me because of the tight turns in Sebring and Homestead. He said 50/80 will push too much in tight turns.

I don't think this is applicable in my case at the moment. Pulling the LSD out and sending to Guard is one of the summer projects, but I doubt its a silver bullet to these handling issues.
