I towed with a Cayenne S. Mine is an aluminum 20' trailer. Within the towing limits. Oh, yes you feel it. Try towing with a pickup truck and then with an SUV. Different worlds.

The problem with SUV towing is not as much the weight. It's the relatively short wheelbase. There is a relation between how long a trailer you can tow and the wheelbase of the tow vehicle. The Cayenne is at the limit for a 20' trailer. It can do it but it's not too much fun. Sway control is a must.

Not that it's impossible or crazy to use a good SUV to tow. It can be done. It's just not as easy as with a truck.

I loved picking up the GMC. All I needed was a hitch and ball. It was prewired and has a brake controller integrated. True plug-n-play. None of this going to the Volkswagen dealer to pickup wiring parts to get the brake controller working.

The only trailer you really don't feel is a gooseneck.

All dually's now have factory brake controllers, tow mode for gear box with manual lockup, 6 or 8 speed gear boxes, exhaust brakes, 400HP / 800LBTQ, not to mention A/C seats, sat TV/radio/nav/hard disc. Most can be had with a ball in the bed. Price about 50K loaded, less then most diesel SUV's. You do need 2 parking spots. The Cummins does not even need urine.

I only added airbags on the rear axle, aux tank and horn blaster.

Want to plan a roadtrip and drive the cars to spot or two? Not the whole thing, but maybe a part of it? I can't be gone for that long either. We just need someone to haul our wheels. cough Randy or Reter cough

That might work. Just saw this. I need to look over my calendar and see how I can figure a trip with my schedule.

Yep MPG totally stinks. I was at a GMC dealer tonight looking at the little Terrain to trade my Mini Cooper for as my daily to haul around music gear. They have all kinds of deals on big trucks. The sales guy said they have to basically give them away in this economy and there are a lot of incentives on them too.

I'd love to find a good small suv/crossover with a desiel though.

The Mini is a blast and actually very comfortable on the highway. It turns like a friggin' go-cart. I never tracked it but would have loved to. I just listed it on Craigslist and putting it in Auto Trader right now.

I'm trying to stay down in the $30-35kish range....Those X5 and Toureg desiels are around $65-70+ and they get 26mpg and the GMC Terrain or Ford Edge get 27-32mpg on 87 octane. I just can't justify the VW or BMW.
