Default Nail in GT3 tire

Would like the opinions/experience of the collective here regarding a nail in the left rear of the GT3.

The nail is in the center of the tread, but the local dealer will not patch due to the performance nature of a GT3.

Anyone here patched a GT3 or RS tire? Any problem with it? Track it?

Patch it (plug & patch). But don't track it. Now you have a nice emergncy spare.

As mentioned above, ideally use a plug type patch normally applied from the inside but only to be used on the street up to freeway speeds... If you track, just don't do it with the repaired tyre. The cost of a failure on track ain't worth it...

Agree with all above. Hell, I'd just take it off and replace entirely, as well as the sister tire on the other side of the car. And the brakes. And the exhaust. And get lightweight wheels. And do an engine conversion for goodness sakes!

Question

I've tracked it with a patch done inside tire. I wouldn't recommend it other then for the street. But my nail was closer to outside so it lifted and started losing air on track. In the center- street driving and not talking canyon carving maniac street driving it's fine. Better to be safe then sorry. mike

Well, I faced the same issue but with the right side tire, my dealer recommended changing with new one.

I changed and the car is pulling to the right under heavy acceleration then I return back complaining and they said you may need to change the left tire because of the different tread. We checked the difference and it was just 1.5mm

The GT3 is very sensitive so I think I have to wait for pilot super sport when arrived to
replace my current pirlle corsa system

Very true, and 1.5mm is a TON on a tire that only contains about 8-10/32's when new. And, tire wear is not linear.

Up to the tire maker. Some allow a tire to be fixed (patched) if the hole is in the tread face and under a certain size and the tire is in otherwise good shape.

In this case the tire's speed rating is not compromised. If the tire maker felt otherwise it would not, could not allow the tire to be repaired due to liability issues.

But some dealers/tire stores won't fix the tire no matter what the tire maker says.

BTW, Porsche says that if the tread depth between the undamaged tire and the new tire is 15% or more the undamaged tire must be replaced as well.

Sincerely,

Macster.

likely not what you may want to hear but not for track, perhaps for road.

Had to toss a brand new rear hoosier at sebring because some dumb@ss left his philips bit for drill/driver on concrete which pierced tire dead center. Lesson learned, before I offload I always walk around where I plan on setting up.
