OK - I've lost enough sleep over this recently,... I have finally decided these track mods to the 997.2 GT3:

- 997 GT2 bucket seats, sub bars, Schroth harnesses, tequipment roll cage, toe links

However, I am now thinking 997.2 GT3 RS again (please sell your car texasviany!!!). After spending $10K on these mods, I can make really good way bridging the gap to an RS with most of these items on the car. I saw this listing and caught my interest, yet again:

I am a little torn on what to do. Do you guys think the RS will hold prices better? How will the 4.0L affect prices? Worth modding now and keeping my eyes open?

I am loving the 997.2 GT3!! I just want to book track days and stop looking at equipment and cars,...

If you're tracking a lot get RS. certaily will not depreciate more then GT3. 4.0 =>If you can you must.

Analysis paralysis... Don't lose sleep over this. If you do, buy one. And if you get one without PCCB, it'll be ever cheaper.

Once you go to track, you will feel better. If you don't, then you know what to do don't you.

Hate to say it bud, but that RS has a story to it! If you know you're going to bump up to an RS I wouldn't bother with GT2 seats in the 3 for now.

Ah! Great to know re: the RS in the listing,... I saw your link a while ago and never connected the two. Love how resourceful RL's are!

For any car, there is will always be latest and greatest. I'd be broke chasing every new upgrade! My issue with the 4.0L is that I'd want to take off the decals and "bling", but that'd be sacrilegious! I'd do the same to a 3.8 RS if were to go that route and could stomach that.

Money is money and I have no issues saving funds for the next 991 GT3 instead of upgrading to 997.2 RS from non-RS. So, the RS decision is not inevitable.

The 4.0L to me is more of living room art. Too bad my living room isn't big enough and I can't afford $185/211K in living room art!

First of all, you will need a roll bar for both .2 GT3 or .2 GT3 RS. So get that into your mind.

Seats is up to you, but the folding buckets are simply amazing. $6k for seats vs. $20k for RS, if you have the money then do it. I believe it's worth the premium.

Im sure you could also sell the sport seats...even people with a carrera or a turbo might buy them, you could get back some money that way. And why not go with the Rotec seats? they are around $2600 a pair.

That RS has a story, however for the right price it would be a good buy as long as the title is not salvage...
The impact was not tub threatening. bumpers, fenders, paint, wheels, misc.... As much of a hit as one would tolerate for repair if the price was right.
If this car has salvage title, its fate will be a PCA stripper in L or GT class.

for 129k they are dreaming.
For 100k they would be in the game for a low mile insurance repair.

For the OP, the 997.2 you have now is a classy ride for daily use in the city without attracting too much attention. Which i sometimes wish i had

A few mods such as toes, seats and roll bar are the only things you will ever need and can always be sold separate when the time comes, even if moving up to a RS. Matter of fact, the toes and bar can be carried over to the RS anyhow, so no real money lost once you resell the seats and factor in a little labour between the two cars

So i would proceed with current car now for this season, and keep you eyes pealed march 2012 for a used RS in a stealthy color for next summer.

Most likely see 997.2RS in USA for 110-115k for spring 2012.

With June around the corner i wouldnt expect the selection of RS porsche to be all that good, nor the asking prices in the peak of the season.

Besides, the packing around it would take to located and buy a RS and then try and sell your current 997.2 will eat into your summer enjoyment of track season.

Come September 2011, put out the vibe that your 997.2 is available for sale..... try n move it early so you can begin christmas shopping for RS

Dont forget that there are still quite a few new RSes still on dealer lots today ... and I should imagine their ability to command a premium is a little dented now that the 4.0 RS is announced ... everyone will be clamoring for one of those cars ...

I wonder how many NA will get of the 600 built?

Also, another thing to consider is that your GT3 @ 99k plus 10k of upgrades compared to a used RS for 120k has a difference of approx 10k.

the other considerations of a RS purchase would be additional shipping charge, possible duty charge if from USA and listing fees to sell the non RS....

10k spread jumps to 20k.......

Would love to see you in RS however

First problem - you have too much time on your hands (and maybe too much money). Enjoy the car you have for heaven sakes. You just got it.

Secondly problem - you seem like the person who wants what he doesn't have. Again, you have a great road and track car. Enjoy it.

Save your money, the upgrade to an RS now won't be exponential, and get the 991 RS when it's out.

Can't believe you are losing sleep over this.

If you're absolutely convinced you can out drive the GT3 and need the RS, then go for it. If not, love the one you're with, buy mods & gold, & spend the next 3 seasons preparing yourself for the 991.

Oh. That doesn't say much for the advertiser.
Looking at the photos, a slow, non-structural fender (literally) bender, right front suspension, maybe he wheel and tire for good measure. Front bumper cover + sundries. Right fender, non-structural, bumper and again, suspension and wheel and tire for safety. Airbags deployed, so +25mph impact on the parked Benz.

Easily a write-off and salvage title, street racing, so no insurance when committing a crime.

That's a lot of pain.

An ideal RSR candidate since the fenders are (repaired) junk by now and the paint probably matches like a patchwork quilt.
