Gt3-to C2S PDK to 1982 928 Weissach

Adam did you notice that 911 had a asking price of $8500!!!!! Thats TWO thousand dollars above what I am spending. I talked to the owner today and he is STILL going through the car to make sure its in tip top shape! I am getting comfortable with this 928. Since he SEEMS to be working to get it ready.
Anyway, you said $7K -- they're asking $8500 obo ... that's not much of a stretch to get them down to parity and it could be worth $7K ... or it could be worth running in the opposite direction.
The few ads I posted show the market on craigslist under $10K for a 911. I think the real entry price level to a turn-key 911 is more like double your budget for the egg. But there are certainly viable 911's under $10K.

If it takes this long to get the car to the point where he doesn't lose sleep over passing it onto someone else, can you imagine how much work it takes to keep it going?

OG,
Nice choice! 5-speed or auto trans?
My oldest son got my 1-year old '04 WRX when he was 16. Many people opined it was too much car. He and his younger brother (19 now; he's been driving the WRX since he turned 16) have taken some courses at Bondurant. Both have done modifications to the Subie while they had it (cat-back exhaust, big Stop-Tech front brakes, Wilwood rear brakes, F/R anti-sway bars, springs, ECU upgrades) that they've done under my supervision, so they've learned a lot over the years.
Working with my son's has been a great experience for the 3 of us and they've developed into young men that I'm quite proud of.
Set some rules, hold 'em accountable, and no problems.

PJS- I bought it 16 yrs ago, because of the color. I'm the 2nd owner. I haven't had the bad experiences of ownership the 928 is known for, but, like most cars, if its maintained well it doesn't cost more than any other car. Sadly, the low resale makes it easy for hacks to buy one, then they get pretty dilapidated in a hurry. Still, its a car I always liked, since my first ride in 1978.
Old Guy getting one for his son- it totally depends on the boy's personality, and how well you really know him.....it could certainly be a great experience to share!

good for you - and for him.
i slaved and bought a 69' 912 in mexico blue when i was 16...
luckly my neighbor was a 356 guy and taught me to rebuild the engine and how to generally do everything i needed to do to keep it running in good health.
nobody ever asked me if it was a 911 or a 912 - the girls didn't care and the others had no idea.
granted i still bought lunch/dinner for plenty but it made no difference, if you know what i mean.
think of it as an investment in his future
