I have had experience with a 996 GT2 and had a 997 TT for a short period of time. I always felt that the 996 GT2 was quite an unforgiving car. The 997 TT with all its technology still exhibited notable turbo lag. I felt the 997 TT had too much power for the OEM chassis whereas I love the GT3 as I always felt you could add more power and have all of it be usable.

I am curious how owners of 997 GT2s compare it to past 996 GT2 or a 997.2 GT3. Would love to hear opinions - specifically on how usable the 530hp is on the track.

I just wrote a long response and wasn't logged in so it was lost. In summary:
I only have one day on track in a GT2 so take this for what it's worth. Lag is minimal. The twins light quick and HARD, so hard that I was leaving mid turn speed on the table because I didn't want to be near the limit when they decided it was time to party. Perhaps with more seat time it's something that could be learned but for track use I'd take an 10' GT3 without reservation.

I see GT2 prices similar to GT3 RS prices,... Totally different cars, but just something more to consider.

if porsche used the GT2 in the CUP motorsport platform i would then make the switch from GT3.

but until that day comes...... im in a GT3...

Hey....I had to throw down some full boost because someone was riding my bumper on the warm up lap and I needed to find space to warm up my ceramics. No changes to the turbo! If anything, down about 30rwhp compared to other stock dyno's I've seen.

I'm lovin the GT2. I've run two events at VIR and 1 day at Summit Point, so I am still getting comfortable with the car. I find the power delivery to be very intuitive and not difficult to manage. There's very little lag but lag nonetheless. Having ridden in a couple of '10 GT3 & RS's I can say their throttle response feels more immediate and precise. So... the lag is noticable but the turbos spool up very smoothly/linear.

I think the way you got up to speed in that car with that much power and so different than what you have been driving is certainly a great testament to your abilities, but also to how easy the car is to drive fast

Some great discussion, so I'd like to add my comments. I have a 2008 GT2 and a 2015 GT3. Both have had modifications (camber, lowering, sway bars, grandam steel rotors, half cage with harness belts, and either Michelin or Hoosier R's) for various track events from CHIN to PCA and others. Before the mods on the GT2, I knew it was fast and you have to manage coming out of a corner as the turbos kick in. I learned to use the minimal turbo lag to my benefit as I could count on it and role into the throttle sooner. The 991 GT3 is a beast of a car stock, but on a fast circuit like COTA or VIR, I preferred the GT2. At COTA the back straight-away going into turn 12 the GT2 had the GT3 by almost 9 mph. After the modifications (GT2 and GT3 tires were 265's in the front and 325's in the back made a huge difference in both) the GT3 was a beast in the corners and corner entry was better. Still the added HP of the GT2 is what makes that car which was totally neutral with bar settings, tires, camber and lowering. I also had a chance to do a Porsche Super Cup in Europe and everyone in the know was wanting the GT2 versus the GT3, as at Nurburgring the GT2 997 was out pacing the 991 GT3 lap times by almost 3-sec. Of course technology has really made the GT3 manageable, but I still find the GT2 997 to be in a league by itself. Just think it is a 9-year old car and can still hold it own with the newer technology.

Met a guy at local track with a 7.1 Cup and 7.1 GT2 last year. Said he could get similar lap times out of both, except the GT2 was a much a scarier way of doing it. Also felt both cars had some time left on the table.
