I HATE the 888s. I used them for one race and threw them out.

That said, the R888s will almost certainly heat cycle out in the rear before they cord - ie you will find yourself counter steering on turns to save your bacon - be careful of this - it can and will sneak up on you quickly.
Yes, you are right. As I am learning the car, the balance is crucial to me right now, and just testing to see what works for how long. I'll be watching the tires closely, thank you for the warning.

Ever since they came out and you tried them, you have been saying this I actually like the stiff side walls, but I have to agree, once the threads are down to 20-25%, the grip falls off the cliff. I really wanted the Pirelli Trofeos, but they had none, so my next set I will try those, and be able to compare them. One of my objectives is to finish the season with only two sets of tires, but I doubt that will be possible at this time.

Compared to my Ra-1s they were slippery out of the box, I didn't care for the grip level at all and I'm not even comparing to a hoosier but I didn't shave them like I do with the RA-1s maybe that's the secret. Back to my soap box

I hate them too, but can you please point out a tire that can be as good in a dry track and still drive you home when wet?

Ra-1s, stupid fast in the rain at full tread. Best rain tire save for hoosier wets

RA-1 stupid fast in dry conditions when shaved. At one time I was 0.3 secs off my best time on prime Hoosier A6 with my worn out RA-1. The older the RA-1 gets, the faster they are, until cords. Sadly, they haven't been available for a long time.

That I definitely agree, amazing in the wet.

Actually, in 2004 at VIR it was raining very hard, on track with brand new RA1s, they felt almost like driving on dry track, so much so that I forgot that I was not to shift in the wet mid-corner, and I did between T5 and 6, ended up on the T6a wall They are that good in the wet LOL.

You guys are giving away all my secrets.

I still have 2 sets unshaved RA1's. They should be Hooter fast around cycle 40 and no longer wear down :-)

i wanted to put 275 RA1 in front this season as I still have 335 RA1 from last season - and I could not find 275 r18 unshaved tires nowhere, only deals I saw were something odd offers per $400+ per tire. silly stuff.

BTW, did you all use 245/305 RA1s on 9"/12" wide 18" rims? weren`t that stretched too much for those tires?

Thank you for asking Victor. Yeah I was alright beside significantly shattered ego, had to replace the helmet, and pay about $15K and 5 weeks to repair the car. The worst was, I did not know what I had done wrong and could not go back to track for 2 years. But all over it now, and loving it

+1 on that, I had a new set of R888's on my 996 GT3 at Reno Fernley and the car was really bad, felt like I was on bald over inflated tires. I switch to Sport Cups for the remainder of the time I had the 6-GT3.

I now use Hoosier R6's for DE and Nitto NT01 for AX on the 997 GT3.
