My best time in my mk2 rs on the bic's inner circut (2.5km) 1:19, michelin psc. top driver at the middle east cup challenge does 1:09 qualifying lap that puts him first on the grid, average lap for the cups during the race are around 1:15, 2010 cup cars.

In 2009, we compared a 2009 GT3 Cup to a 2007 911 GT3 RS. Same track (Thunderhill Raceway), same driver (Johannes van Overbeek), same day (nice weather, not too hot/cold/humid), same time of the day. We ran the Cyclone, as depicted here:

http://thunderhill.com/staticpages/i...?page=TrackMap

2007 GT3 RS: 2:00.4
2009 GT3 Cup: 1:48.6

Again, not the latest pair, but the info may be helpful.

Apologies I have just seen its 3miles from the link so 4.8km.

there appears to be a common theme coming through here - 12 seconds.

Depends on track layout, but generally 5-7 secs per minute. At the Nurburgring the difference is over 30 secs per lap, at Lime Rock Park around 6 secs difference.

Just for the record, Simon Patrick replaced Röhrl on that 2010 race at the Nürburgring. Walter was suffering from back problems. "In a partnership between Porsche and German magazine Sport Auto, racing drivers Roland Asch and Patrick Simon were joined by writers Chris Harris and Horst von Saurma behind the wheel of the car". z356

Agreed.

My 12 second comment was aimed at track lengths around 4.5 - 4.8km.

It's been fascinating reading the info posted here.

Home track is 5.38km. Modified 09 Cup car laps around the 2:10 marker. I do a 2:18.76 in the GT3 with space for improvement. Did a couple of laps in a modified GT2 and got 2:17.24 also with space for improvement. Cup on Michelin slicks, both street cars running Pirelli Trofeo

- 25-26 seconds faster than Spec Miata (on Toyo RA1s).

Haven't timed it, but 996 GT3 RSR (without restrictors and Michelin slicks) should be 3-6 seconds slower......

And about 10 seconds (or more) slower than V8 Radicals!
Thusly,

Are you saying that the 996 GT3 RSR is 3-6 seconds slower than an 09 Cup Car at your home track? If so, that would make it equivalent or slower than 996 Cup Car based on your data. Is that right?

We need some real data.. I think this is a great mag article in the making.

2010 Cup vs 2009 Cup vs 2010 RS vs 2010 GT3

all on same track and same slick tires

Hey, don't leave all the rest of us out (7.1, etc.). We need some representation. Por Favor.

PS Congrats on topping the 1000 post mark.

im going to start working on putting something like this together.

for it to mean anything it will have to be:

same day, same track, same tires, pro level driver to get the most relevant data.

from my research it will be about this at a track like laguna:

2010 Cup: fastest/baseline
2009 Cup: +2 seconds
.2 RS: +5
.1GT3: +8

all cars using same slicks and similar alignments and set ups

This test would cost $15k plus.. who wants to start the donation process

Won't be able to tell you about a 2011, but will soon know about a 2008 RSR with a 4.0 l.....

Sorry - to clarify (and posting changed): 996 RSR is 3-6" faster than the '09 cup.
