My CUP splitter eventually started to tear last year, in which case i trimmed it with a blade along the line and now it is as good as new and not as low! You gotta love these motorsport parts.

Yes he did.
I've never put anything on, no need IMHO, rip it off, slap it on 10 secs.
put a bead of silicone on it before you attach and it won't come off. You can scrape as much as you like.

I have the version with vents ... +1 on the silicon bead or 2-sided tape

For the OP, i have never siliconed or double taped CUP splitter. If it comes off, it is for a reason.
i like being able to quickly remove it and install it without hand tools.

My wife took receipt of our pristine Guards Red 997.1 GT3 last Thursday (I was out of town). The driver helped my wife out by driving it into the driveway and destroyed the previously unscathed splitter by driving straight in - awesome... I've driven in at an angle since then and it's still scraping but not nearly as badly. I was at a PCA DE event this weekend and at Ruf/RAC in Dallas today. People at both places recommend the Cup splitter for all the reasons noted above. Just be sure you are not scraping above the splitter - that involves some serious $...

They look the same, the CUP splitter is a about 1" deeper, a bit softer and more flexable.
Instead of trying to avoid scraping, I try to scrape it as hard and often as I can only to show who's boss ;-).
Never replace it unless it has pieces missing, it adds character to the car. And never ever paint them

As a relatively new owner of a 997.1 GT3, I have yet to experience the inevitable scraping. I was wondering what kind of damage occurs when the stock splitter goes beyond "scraping" and hits something solid (ie hitting just the splitter)... Being a "disposable" item, does it break loose easily and leave the bodywork above alone, or is there more damage? I'm sure there are those out there who can speak from experience.
