i really dont want to visit the dealer because it will take long time for checking and reporting.
Lifters are a part of the engine that assist with opening and closing the valves. In some engines they're mechanical, in some engines they're hydraulic. When an engine has hydraulic lifters, the lifters are supported by engine oil. If the lifters are getting less oil than they need, they'll clatter.

On startup, the oil has all seeped back to wherever it sits when the engine is at rest. For the first few revolutions, the lifters won't be completely filled with oil, so you may get a clattering. It doesn't mean there's anything wrong, and the lifters will quickly be up-to-pressure (especially in these engines with the dry sump). It's only a concern if it continues for an extended period.

me too ... its like some sort of cartoon roadrunner noise ... you expect to see the small puff of smoke in the distance as the wily c impacts ...

the 7's dont appear to make it as often as the 6's did ...

If you didn't hear this noise in the first six months I think your car has a problem. Take it to the dealer and have it checked out.

And let's not forget about the smells. From cosmoline, to road debris on the exhaust and, in my case, to leaked coolant evaporating on the warm engine.

Hey almeena, it happens quite randomly, i bought my car new last year... It had been discussed hear before and I hadn't got it yet which I thought was strange. One morning after 3 months (3000 km or so) the machine gun rattle occurred. Now i may hear it once every couple of months or so... Nothing to worry about.

For the first few weeks after I got my 997.1 I was amazed at all unique sounds it made. All the boings, rattles and occasional puff made me very attentive at first but now every few weeks when I hop in it I can't wait to hear them!
