Default Seat Exchange A.S.S. to S/Bkt

Curious if anyone knows whether or not the electrical harness for power/A.S.S. style seats are installed in all cars so that interchange of standard or sport bucket/GT2 style seats is possible.

I guess a better way to ask the question would be: Can A.S.S seats be installed in cars that came with standard or sport buckets without electrical mods to the car.

Thanks.

I cannot state categorically 'yes' on this; however I do not believe that the wiring harness for cars equiped with different seat variants differs, therefore
electrically the seats are compatible.

I would anticipate the only changes needed would be to add seat heating switches to the console if you were installing *** with heating.

Many people have certainly "downgraded" from *** and/or Std Sports seats to Sports Buckets with no changes required (including myself), therefore the reverse should be possible.

p.s
You will have no trouble selling the Sports Buckets here! you may even find some people willing to swap!

I think he's looking to swap his A.S.S. for the sport buckets.

He asked both questions, I believe I answered (as best as I can) both.

As far as I know all harnesses and connectors are there regardless of the optioned seats.

That's my understanding also, although I do wonder about heated seats...

Agreed.

I did not order the A.S.S, yet the car came with them. To me that had to be an inventory issue and they used what they had in lieu of std seats. That leads me to believe our cars have a standard wiring loom for electric and manual.

Makes me wonder how much all the extra wires weigh.... : - )

Yep, pretty nice freebie upgrade.

The wiring looms are pretty complex and expensive so most car companies will attempt to create a "one size fits all" solution across model/geo variants...

are your seats heated?

Lol

I think that it's a matter of the manufacturing line and the way they work the cars.

I believe that harnesses go in, in a much earlier stage in the assembly line, even before each car gets its tags for personalization in the coming assembly stations.
At least that's what I understood in my last factory visit although nobody confirmed it when I asked.. : )

Even in a 6 clubsport the electric seat's wiring is there, although it was impossible to order it with electric seats.

No, no heated seats for me. The funny thing is, had I known they were going to throw in the freebie, I would have gone for the folding buckets. Just one of my A.S.S. weighed in at ~67lbs.

yup they are not at all light, there are a couple of electric motors in there which really cranks the weight up ...

but for around 6k you can pop a pair of the sports buckets in without any trouble ...

No problem... all part of the service!

BTW in theory you can actually do the seat swap yourself with a couple of spare hours, thr right tools and a good friend who is not easily offended by
the occasional outburst of foul language! (in my case at least)

I was told by my dealers service tech that you can buy a car with *** and easily swap in the Sport Buckets. However, it is not easy to swap *** into a car ordered with Sport Buckets. One of the reasons I ordered my GT2RS with *** from the factory. I can buy sport buckets and drop in when desired.
