Default Akrapovic Slip-On Exhaust Installed - Pics

Just wanted to share some pics of my car with the Akrapovic Slip-On exhaust and carbon heat shield. It was a relatively easy DIY job -- took about 3 hours on a relaxed pace. The tips are large and double wall (100mm) and fit well under the carbon trim. In terms of sound, it's a tad louder than stock in sport mode, at idle but with less rasp (lower tone, more refined). Unfortunately, car only has about 100 miles so I can't give any feedback on sound over 4500 RPM. Sorry about the novice quality pictures.

Beautiful car.

How does everyone avoid abuse from the law?

In Massachusetts ("no louder than OEM") I got stopped (after the officer almost got himself T-boned making a 3-point turn on a 40 mph corner) because it was thought my stock E36 M3 exhaust was too loud (puttering along at 40 mph in 4th).

Officer appreciated my comment: "Thanks for endangering the public to look at my exhaust."

GT3 with any exhaust modifcation would be a definite no-go here.

We don't live in Massachusetts.

Good call avoiding the Republic of Massachusetts (unless you're an illegal alien)

Yes you can. Just step on the right pedal a little harder.

BTW, nice car.

Were you drinking a beer and texting? Seriously, 26yrs in MA driving all kinds of "noisy" cars and never had an issue.

Looks great! But I can't quite read your tag number? Post clearer pictures please?

And I while I am harassing you...lol...you know break-in is a fallacy right? Once the engine is warm you are good to go. That exhaust won't even come alive until 5000rpm.

Nah, young Southborough cop just figured he'd harass the "rich guy". Probably also had a little adrenaline buzz going from almost taking a car through his door.

savyboy, the exhaust on your profile pic looks like an Akra. Is that the sports cup or evo race? Regarding break-in, I'll pop her cherry at the 500 mile mark.

Polarcharger, next mod will probably be track wheels...not sure which ones at this point. Quite a few nice ones out there...HRE C40, BBS Motorsport, Vorsteiner...

Correct. It was Evolution full system with valving and that is a great set up for quiet/loud. I reconfigured it as Evolution Race to shave some butt lbs at the expense of full time db's. The car will be seeing very few street miles this year.
