Default Oil change question

Hey guys, humor me on this one...

a good friend just got into a 997.2 GT3, with about 6,000 kms (3,800 miles) on it. car is about 15 months old.

it has NOT been in for its first service and oil change yet.

the car had a message on the display saying to bring it in for service. i'm assuming its because it wants the first service.

the manual says that the oil change is interval is 20,000 kms (12,400 miles); car is a ROW car, not U.S. market.

i'm telling him that 20,000 kms is way way too long between changes, especially given that he tracks regularly, and conditions here in this country are generally much worse than in Europe or the U.S. (extreme high heat and humidity, very very dusty). the local dealer's standard oil change interval is 10,000 kms (6,200 miles) or one year, whichever comes first.

what do y'all think?

I change the oil every 2-3 track weekends or every 5,000 street miles.

If my car was a garage queen and not tracked and I drove less than 5000 miles a year I' change the oil reguardless of how little miles once a year.

Someone here posted a lab report of oil contents a few hundred miles after break-in. After seeing that, I am going to dump my factory fill by 500 miles and then, after every few track days.

First oil change at 1200 miles and now change it every 3,000, same as my tires!
