Default CL center caps popping off

I lost 3 so far @ $30 something plus shipping. Only at the track and I think only AFTER coming off the track when the car is cooling down.

I wounder if they are really needed to keep the CL clean? Any thoughts?

Manual insists that they should be there, as they are supposed to seal the inner part of the C/L mechanism with their rubber ring. Now if they do so is questionable from what the dealer here told me..

How about some red duct tape on top of them? : )

I know you do, you were my inspiration for the added remark above.

I've lost a few too. Next time I'm just leaving them off. It's also a good opportunity to check and be sure that the centerlock is fully engaged.

I have heard that this is caused by water getting behind the cap. As the wheel heats up at the track, pressure builds and forces the cap off. Be careful if using a pressure washer (or any strong jet of water) to clean your wheels as this can force water behind the cap. I have not had this problem, but I saw it happen to one of my track friends after he washed his wheels.

Also, the recommendation to use grease or vaseline on the o-ring to make it easier to get them off makes it easier for them to pop off!!! Go without the lubrication on the seal...

same happened to me except my dealer said they had been stolen as the wheel had evidence of a "lever" type device being used as the wheel had been marked........... theft in Dubai......? nothing to do with the fact that perhaps this mark had happened when they checked the wheels for me the week before......

jb is right. Had one pop off and stream was coming out of the center lock right after I came in off the track and was checking air pressures. Heat soak. Removed the others and there was moisture behing every one. It was my fault, I had washed the car with the caps off while changing wheels. Water gets trapped behind the lock. Use lots of air to blow out. I just leave them off at the track now. Easier to check that the locks are engaged after retorqueing and that is another issue.

No lubricant and no water behind wheel, my car had not been washed or seen rain for 2 weeks...
I bought 2 more yesterday from Suncoast $30.00something each.

The next few I am going to claim warranty, see what they say..

They say you track the car and that they won't cover you because, although this is Porsche's best track car it's not allowed to be in the track, keeping track of what I am saying? : )

Now that you bring up the GTR;

GTR's don't handle water very well on worn out tires..
My friend did this on Tuesday after sending Hennessey the deposit for new wheels, tires (Hence the "I could not buy new tires now."), CF wider fenders, paint and 650HP kit on Monday.

My friend says: "I drove about 120MPH and it kept feeling like I was floating, so I slowed down to 80MPH and went in the middle lane, but the ruts made it even worse...I did that for about 5 minutes" LOL

Hennessey added some dooda's with another quote late Monday, Tuesday they asked him in an e-mail: "And did you figure it out OK?" My friend replies "Yes I got out out alive OK" hennessee "Huh?" and then my friend then e-mailed these pics, LOL:

Hennessey was really cool about it and gave him money back. Now waiting for new one to be delivered..
