Rad, I hope to see you there
I'm leaving Wednesday.

Your explanation seems very logical to me.
Thank you for typing that out "springs for dummies" style. Perfect.

Erik and I are stuck with old Toyo RA1's 245/40/18 RA1 and 305/30/18, me same fronts and 325/30/18 rear. We both have enough to last for at least 2 more years.

Also from 911Slow N/mm * 5.710143 = lb/in
RS.1 F 229 R600
RS.2 F 280 R658
my recommended spring rate next (450/750)
It seems you would be right. The rear is not far off on mine and the rear might just be right because we just don't have the front tires to have more spring or swaybar. Both Erik and me have the same ring and pinion and Cup LSD..

Just a quick update. Peter described most of it already. On Saturday, the car was 2 seconds slower then normal. Rear had tons of grip, quick transitions from left to right and right to left were lightning quick, but as Rad predicted, slow turns were a dissaster. PBIR is a slow turn track and all the turns have very late apexes past middle of the turn at 5/8's or later. I could just never get on the throttle.
So on Saturday night after our instructor diner I drove to Orbit and at 8pm we changed the front springs to 748 lbs (no 700's in stock). When I say "we", it means, me and buddy Craig standing there with a Sam Adams watching Roger change the springs.
On Sunday the car was much better but the best that I got down to a 1:27 flat, which is still slower then what I've done. The car still understeers, but it felt a whole lot closer to stock in level of understeer. Transitions from side to side were a little slower but still fine. And I've never driven at PBIR where the car is not understeering so we were close to normal but definitely not faster. On a side note, with suspension/shocks set to hard, car's symtoms were worse. Sway bar wise, there was not adjustment to be had, I had my rear GT2 sway bar set to full hard and front regular sway bar to full soft. Isaac from Orbit (just came 3 months ago from Manthey) suggested trying to disconnect the front completely just for fun but I did not get to try it.
My tires during the weekend were very used up RA'1, so I'm not sure if I could done a little better on fresher tires, but I doubt that I would've gone faster then 1:26.1 on RA1's this weekend. And my fastest laps on Sunday were not during the very first session when it was nice and cold, but more when the weather was into the 70ties.
On thursday Winterfest with PBOC starts for 4 days of Sebring, which has a lot of high speed turns where I'm hoping that these springs will do their work much better.

The experiment continues :-)

as you run with stiffer springs it may have sense to revert to softer stock GT3 sways actually, also, IMHO it may have sense to increase front camber to -3 deg.

interesting that the .2 is stiffer both f&r yet the car feels "softer" ... compression/rebound on the PASM I wonder?

After just getting off the phone with Roger and giving him my feedback, Roger would prefer to drop the spring rates to 800/500 for Sebring rather then letting me go out there for 4 days with a spring package that may be too high, especially for RA1's. The 800/500 package had been tried before on another customer. This customer usually drives on Michelin Slicks, but pro Chris Hall had driven his car on a coaching day and liked that setup very much. Chris had turned 2:19's with that setup with 230 lbs owner as passenger. I'm dropping the car off in a few hours and picking it up tomorrow.
800/500 should be very close to what Rad had already recommended. Will keep posted.

Probably..
Damper bound and rebound settings can alter the way a suspension “feels” almost the same way a spring change would, although the end result and the setups’ efficiency will almost always be different as night and day between these two.

I wonder if those 500/800 springs fit the RS.2? Does Rodger have an extra set he can bring?
Just in case..

Screw you, with your gurney lip, front spoiler extensions, etc etc etc you're wayyyy too fast already. I'm asking Roger to bring some 2000 lbs springs but I'll write 500/800 on them

We spent a lot of time picking out the correct rates and adjusting our bars to make the most of the uprated springs... Good luck in your search but i hope you dont eclipse the cost of our kit in your install/cost/align.

I'm bringing this back from the dead since I get pm's every so often asking for an update, so for the benefit of the group

At 500/800 it felt the closest to what the car used feel like, but at the end, it never really make me faster. With those spring rates I was doing 2:23's at Sebring, a VERY rough track that I know inside and out. 2:23's are respectable but it was very cold that weekend, and in similar weather I had done 2:21 before. If I had done 2:23 in middle of summer I would've said that I had great improvement, but with that cold weather, I believe that I got back close to what the car could do stock. Results may be very different at other tracks, but since Sebring is my hometrack and 75% of my laps are done over there, for me there was not benefit. Keep in mind that most teams set up their cars VERY soft for Sebring because it is so bumpy so if you drive on smoother tracks, the 500/800 combo may be perfect.

The rear hats were machined by Orbit Racing because he (Roger Hawley) could not find anyone that sold them.

I have now installed KW clubsports, and so far the results have been very positive

Clubsports weren't earlier available for the 997 - I remember checking this about a year ago - variant 3s yes clubsports no. I see know on their 2010 catelog they are available but when you use their online shopping tool it still shows only Variant 3s.

Where did you get them, what do the cost and what are the spring rates?

I'm guessing $4500 and something like #350/#950 (f/r)

Thx

Interesting find, subscribed!

Erik, was the front too bumpy with 500# springs? Or was the whole car bumpy since the track is rough?
