Limited Edition 99.2 GT3 RS ?

I haven't heard about it but I really hope that it is not true. Porsche has way too many models out right now and these constant limited editions is taking away from the company slightly in my opinion.

latest Excellence editorial says basically the same thing - that not gt models are losing their market luster as a result of brand dilution
I think they should hold off as well

If this is truly the end of the line for the GT1 motor, then I think it deserves a fitting 500hp+ normally aspirated swan song.

Just saw this post mentioning about the recent GT Porsche Magazine interview with the PAG R&D Head, Wolfgang Dürheimer. He said that the GT2RS will be the last new Porsche to have the GT1-block engine.
Since Mr. Wolfgang Dürheimer is the head man, if he says so it means so. I guess that means no 4.0L limited edition GT3RS?

"... change is coming, even to the cars built by Porsche Motorsport, often seen as a brand within a brand. Ever since the first GT3 was built over a decade ago, these cars hve been using the old racing engine, the indirect injection motor that can trace its origins back to the 911 GT1 Le Mans winner of 1998. But now that Porsche has an all-new direct injection flat-six in every other 911, Boxster and Cayman, the time has come for the old engine to take its final bow. 'We don't need to replace it,' concedes Durheimer, 'but we are business people and it doesn't make sense to have two entirely different generations of flat-six being built in house.' He confirms the GT2 RS will be the last new Porsche to be fitted with the old engine. And while that will bring tears to the eyes of the purists, I think we should at least wait to see what its replacement is like before lamenting its passing too much."

Sounds too cheap to have an RSR engine in there, considering a well-specced "regular" 3RS is already well into 150-160k territory...
That'd be my guess as well... the ULTIMATE in parts bin recycling... All the blingy CF from the 2RS... and the mythical rose-jointed suspension parts which may or may not be in the 2RS to begin with

The 4.0 (500PS) GT3 RS will be produced!!!
The production starts from June 2011 and it won´t be a limited edition. It will be produced at least untill December 2011 or even untill the new 911 comes out.
Price approximately 20k Eur over the standard GT3 RS.
Unfortunately no further information... but during January/Feruary Porsche should give us all the details.
