I decided to upgrade the safety aspects of my car, since I'm keen to track it hard (and wicked fast!). I purchased Porsche's carbon fiber GT2 seats. These have cutouts in the headrest and seat bottoms that are designed for a racing harness. I purchased a set of Schroth 6 point harness for driver and passenger. In order to secure the harness, and keep my head in case of a roll over, I installed a custom roll bar that was fabricated by a local race shop, TC Design. I also got a head and neck restraint (HANS) device to compliment my new carbon fiber helmet.
This was only my 3rd track day with the new car. It was a little bit of an adjustment switching from the stock seats to these, since they sit a little higher than I'm used to, plus they are much more straight up and down than I'm used to (and have zero tilt adjustment). This was also my first time in my new HANS and six-point harness. The HANS hits the seat back and prevents my head from going back as far as I'd like. But, it didn't seem too cumbersome once I was on track. I dropped another 2-1/2 seconds off my time in my first session of the day. Confidence is key to this sport!

have tony order you some split collar rings. you need those on both sides of the harness so the harness dont spread apart should you need to "depend" on the harness.

I found the seats too upright in my GT2. I got them reclined exactly to my liking by shimming them in front under the seat rails. In other words, by shimming the seats, you tilt the whole seat. Once tilted to the angle right for me, I've found the seat very comfortable. Have spent more than eight hours of driving time at a stretch, not counting gas stops, without any problem other than feeling a bit stiff when having to go through the exit gymnastics.

It was great meeting you at Thunderhill last Friday and glad you were able to run couple dry sessions before Saturday's rain mess. LOVE your interior set up and glad to see you drop couple seconds with harness, HANS and better seats. R-compound tires will shave couple more seconds. We will give mooty 6 GT3 a run for it's money at TH on 11/05
