short shifter
I have an 996 C4S with the 996 OEM short shifter, and am considering upgrading to the 997 GT3 shifter or the 997 short shifter.
I would appreciate any views as to the smoothness and shortness of the GT3 shifter vs the 997 short shifter (is the GT3 version any shorter than the standard 997 shifter, or does it just have aluminum rather than plastic bushings?).
Also, has anyone used the billet shift linkage in replacement of the OEM plastic linkage? Would appreciate any views on that upgrade as well, including notchiness, reducing any sloppiness in the shifter, etc.
Thanks!

I have the OEM short shifter in my 2007 997TT and I don't like it. The throws are too short and it takes too much effort to put it into gear. I prefer the standard GT3 shifter and plan to replace the short shifter over the winter.
I like the shifting effort to be lighter so that you can tell right away when you're trying to select the wrong gear. I find the effort on the short shifter so high that it's tough to tell.
I believe the 997 GT3 shifter is different than a regular Carrera and I find it to be the best solution.

^997.1 GT3 shifter 997 424 010 00 is same used in all 997.1 and 997.2 Carrera models except the ones that are equipped with the short shifter option IXCZ.
only 997.2 GT3 has newer shifter 997 424 010 91.

Don't know I driven a 2010 but only for a while and couldn't tell a difference, it felt the same. Other people here can comment better.
Besides I am 996 cup shifter / cup cables fan, I have posted so many times about it that people thing I take money for every one Porsche sells.
To the OP note that I am biased and hate all kinds of short shifters so I think you ll be happy with the 997 carrera / gt3 shifter, its shorter than the 996 oem shifter but not notchy at all and has a side reinforcement . And the price is right too.

XCZ option Short Shifter on Spyder
I am considering a MY2011 Boxster Spyder with XCZ Short Shifter factory option. The MSRP is $765 for this option so not cheap. Does this XCZ option provide the improved shifter (997 424 010 91)? Or same as optional shifter on 997.1 & 997.2? Does anyone have opinions as to whether this option is worth it on a Spyder? z356

For what it's worth, if the Cayman Clubsport is real, it will be an option I get.

for all 997s - 987s the short shifter option IXCZ includes shifter 997 424 983 00
I beleive it's a matter of personal taste some people love it others hate it, although it is better than any aftermarket short shifter kit I tried and for a street car it might be fine (I drove a 997TT with it), it just didn't like changing gears in a rush.
Specifically for a 997gt3 I think it's a downgrade and a waste of money standard shifter suits the car better.
Just my 2c.
