His tech is 3,000 miles away in Canada. I took the car to my local tech in Oregon. The Canadian tech said my tech is wrong, a tech from Barrier Porsche is wrong, and a tech from Carrera Motors is wrong, and a service writer tech is also wrong. They all laughed and one suggested I call the Canadian tech's supervisor and complain.

That guy is smoking crack. I am a factory trained tech and the car does not need to be running to show over rev's. The number of ignitions is stored in the DME, why he thinks the car needs to be running to read the DME is beyond me...

When I sold my '08 GT3 last sept, the buyer opted to do the deal through Porsche dealer to get CPO. They of course ran the engine, but at the time of reading the ECU, the engine was off. My read out also showed " ------" , no actual numbers....
Service tech said my car was the first one ( GT3) he'd seen with no over revs in any range....he also called me a ***** ! LOL
If your buyer speaks to a porsche dealer, I'm sure they'll straighten him out.

"--- ---" is NO over rev.
maybe his tech never seen a car with no over rev????
and as GT3 north said, if there are numbers show, that doesn't mean that's the number of over revs. it's number of ignition. very different.
furthermore, guys, this is a GT3, you can zing the **** out of the motor, it's fine. i have yet to see someone zing one bad enough to blow it up. all these scan for over rev is BS. all i care is the car is never been hit. you can rev the mother fk all you want.
but back to OP's car. that read out states ZERO over rev. i dont know what other doc will satisfy the buyer.....

i emailed the over rev printout to the service adviser at my local p car dealer.
here is is response: "That's clean, no range 1 means never even touched rev limiter - garage queen?"

Yeah, Mooty is correct as far as range 1..... service tech told me no over rev in range 1 means " this motor never even bumped into the rev limiter...you're a ***** !!" He laughed and clarified that " it's almost impossible to NOT hit rev limiter on track...thats what it's there for..motor will be fine "...

You got that right, you can see that little light come on during most of my track videos.
Type 1's are pretty common, every car I own will have some for sure.
I agree with the OP, this car is clean, GLWS.

Thanks so much guys. I think we managed to scare this "potential" buyer off. Oh well, if he was real he should be very excited to see what a "garage queen" my machine is.

I don't believe that's correct. For the regular series 997, the tech's comments may be correct, but for the 997.1 GT3, the rev ranges are as follows:
Range 1: 9000-9200 RPM
Range 2: 9200-9400 RPM
Range 3: 9400-9600 RPM
Range 4: 9600-10000 RPM
Range 5: 10000-11000 RPM
Range 6: 11000 and up RPM
A Type 1 (Range 1) over rev would indicate a botched downshift because the engine has been taken beyond the indented max range (8,400rpm). Maybe MJones can jump in and help us down the right path.

Ignitions are the firings of the spark plugs
On a six cylinder 4 stroke engine you get 3 ignitions per 1 revolution.
For 997GT3.1 you divide the max rpm limit of 8400rpm with 60 seconds and you get 140 revolutions per second of the engine at redline.
Multiply this by 3 and you have the ignitions per second of the engine at redline 140x3= 420 ignitions per second on the rev limiter.
From this you can see how long *in seconds the engine stayed in a particular rpm range and also from the operating hours you can see how long ago this happened.
On the 996 GT3 2 types of over revs were recorded in the DME type 1 that recorded every ignition above 8201 rpm. And type 2 which recorded every ignition above 8801 and to infinity.
From the 997 introduction newer DME has the ability of recording not only type 1 and type 2 but 6 types so that the dealers can check easily not only when a type 2 overrev happened and how long it lasted but also at what range of revs.
Type 1 is SAME like in 996 for all 997s meaning that type 1 is very common and every one who hits the revlimiter while accelerating should have them.
I am pretty sure in the 997GT3 is the same but adjusted to the gt3s limiter but I will check the workshop manual to verify when I return.

On my '07 GT3 I had Type 1 and Type 2 overrevs, but never revved the car over 8550 accoring to Traqmate, mostly bouncing of rev limiter and once letting the clutch out catching the car while still accellerating, thats when I hit 8550.
All tracked GT3's pretty much have Type 1 and type 2 as far as I have ever heard or seen.
I will check for overrevs next week if I remember.
