wow that's way cool ... I wonder if that would allow the install of the 3.8 RS airbox in a 3 ...

downside: requires cutting the decklid

Nope you need to cut the oem airbox and lid. The shape of the opening is different in the 3.8RS airbox. It won't fit and seal.
This is a fine mod. Combine it with a non-paper filter (one that you will never re-oil) and you got yourself a cheap(er) version of the RS 4.0 intake..

didn't the 996.2 RS or 997.1 RS have a dual inlet airbox - or am I imagining this?

John: If you buy the 3.9 package, they throw it in for free.

How much do they charge for it as a stand alone piece?

Well that is not true for the European market; they charge 755EUR for it.
Even if you just paid 20K for the 3.9L they still ask for more.
They are Germans. How you think they have the strongest economy in the world? : )

ps. they include it for free with their 4.1 kit

Larry: John's pictures are spot on, but when you see it in person, it is even more impressive to see how they utilized the air space above the cooling fan, and divided that space into two spaces - one for the fan, and one for the intake.
